SDCC 2013 MOTUC Preview Castle Grayskull...

Recommended Posts

Take a look at the flag. LOL! What a cheap piece of garbage. You mean the 4H couldn't just sculpt a nice fluttering flag??? The jawbridge fix is a huge improvement, but the "stickers" thing is just so cheasy for a friggin $300 playset. I can just imagine how crappy the paint app, shadowing detail will be on the final product. That wind raider stand hole looks even more useless than before. I really believe this playset would have been much better if Neitlich wasn't involved with this line.

*disclaimer* I don't pretend to know how Comicon works or runs but I do know everything else in the universe* So your a major corporation, unveiling an showcase masterpiece that ties everything together near the close of the line, a great way to say thank you to the masses who spent their hard earned money, & a way to make the ones who didn't buy just a little envious that they couldn't bite. So for the frothing at the mouth fans, waiting so long for a first good peek at the gigantic Castle of our childhood dreams, one so big your family could be evicted out into the mean streets, but not to worry I bought Castle Grayskull honey, our children will be born & conceived in it's great halls........the will be called Adam and Leiaaaahemdora....By the Power of Grayskull!! I kinda of expected an stronger SDCC Dio? this is an awesome piece but its sooooo understated by the haphazardly placed figs, some of which were clearly out too late partying w/Johnny Manziel they could barely stand up.....I feel like the team that set this up clearly had other things to do maybe catch up on some laundry or finish that last where's waldo.........Cool Castle Bad Dio.........Next year I volunteer to help setup Mattel and it won't be anything like Mannequin the movie......

I think its awesome and don't understand why people don't like it

Ya, I'm with you there. I would have bought one if I had somewhere to display it.

I really think many of you are expecting a little TOO much. I'm not really sure where all of the complaints are coming from, as the classics line has always been about updating the original toys, while still keeping the same feel, and I think the new CG does this perfectly.

I understand many complaints about this line. Not all of them. I don't understand the complaints about Castle Grayskull. It's a bit unfortunate the foam model they showed was taller, but this is still mighty impressive. And I'm not quite sure what people were expecting. It's just too bad we won't get a Snake Mountain to go along with this.

My guess is people want more value for their money. $300 is a lot of loot to throw down on a playset and I think people have a right to expect the most out of it. Stickers and a trap door that doesn't drop figures into the dungeon is just a few of the problems here. I would have been happy with no dungeon jail and just the trap door if they replaced it with textured graphics instead of stickers. The poor engineering decisions that went into this are are a direct result of Neitlich cutting costs. If the castle was bigger, we wouldn't have a figure standing on a tower shooting a laser cannon looking like he might fall off the castle if he's not careful. Nor would we have figures just barely able to fit onto floors or in doorways. The size of the castle doesn't match the size of the figures plain and simple. If they didn't cheap out on the overall size, we would have a more functional playset.

I understand wanting more for your money, but I think MOTUC turned into a pretty obvious gouge a long time ago, so I guess I wasn't surprised by the Castle given what I already knew of Mattel and the line. I knew fans would be asked to pay an exorbitant amount of money for an average (in terms of cost) playset. It's like, the figures are impressive, but are they $30-impressive? Not really if I'm putting aside my love of the property and being objective. Castle Grayskull seems overpriced to some for what you're getting, but that's what MOTUC has become.

The trap door does work in the newest design if you watch Pixel Dan's walk-through of the Mattel booth with Scott.

What he means is that the figure doesnt land in the cell. Personally i love the castle now because the jawbridge was fixed otherwise i dont know what i would have done. Now i cant wait to get it.

By the way i dont even need a jail in castle grayskull since no one is suppose to enter the castle so why keep prisoners in it? I doubt i will even put it in.

Possibly it was there when it was first built by King Greyskull

Who's idea was it to put that stupid jail cell in there to begin with? It takes up SO much room in a castle that doesn't have a whole lot of room as it is. The vintage castle didn't have it, why does this one? Even the vintage Prototype doesn't have it. If I do decide to get this, It will need SO much customization to make it the way it's supposed to be. At least the jawbridge was fixed and I must say... It's much better.

You do know that he isn't the end-all be all decision maker on everything right? You do know that even he has to answer to people.

Are you serious? The things I pointed out are more than likely here to stay. It looks like a pretty close to final castle to me. they just put the sign there to cover their asses when it comes time to cut little accessories like the trainer and the batwing jetpack, etc. Any little thing to maximize profits and screw over consumers.
