Wow, YO JOE! Really nice update to this franchise. Now I wondering why'd Sigma six get a regular series and this is only 5 minute installments. Come on Cartoon Network shell out some cash and order up a regular length 13 episode season. Some said it didn't seem Ellis enough, which I think is a credit to him as a writer that it was more G.I. Joe then Ellis, although I did get some of his flavor in episode three on the youtube link, with the explanation of the particle cannon and using the earth's own ionosphere to bounce the beam where ever. That's some pure Ellis super science right there. Does feel a little rushed, but after the abortion that was sigma six, I'm grinning ear to ear to over Resolute.

Because there's no faith in GIJOE being able to carry a series again after Sigma Six.
Sigma Six got the bigger push because, as a property, it was hoped it was different enough to gain the attention of a new audience.

GIJOE has a very niche audience these days--the only reason its having a major live action movie released is because of the success of Transformers as a movie.
War-themed cartoons and TV shows do NOT do well during time of war--probably because its a sensitive topic culturally when real people next door could be fighting and dying.
The odds are somewhat stacked against GIJOE becoming any kind of success this summer, either in the theatre's on in the toy aisles. And unless the movie is a BIG hit, a dedicated cartoon is very unlikely.

I've thought about that, considering the attitude (anti-American, anti-patriotic, anti-American soldiers being perceived as REAL HERO's) that our current Prez has? Trying to bash and criticize everything the previous administration stood for or implemented doesn't exactly place the whole concept of G.I.Joe in a very good light, although those Navy Seals got a bit of a pat on the back and acknowledgement of their skills in taking out those pirates? G.I.Joe came about in the Reagan era, so that's probably another strike against them with the current spineless worms running the show. Not sure how DEFENDING ourselves against terrorism, whether it's real or in a COMIC BOOK story, is a "sensistive topic" for some people as I'd think being able to do what's RIGHT, defend ourselves, defend OTHERS, maintain peace, safety and order for decent, law abiding folks is not anything to be ashamed of, but I guess we'll find out otherwise soon enough?

not to mention that, sadly, kids and teens and even older people just don't see the war going on right now. its not like the wars of the past. people don't seem to pay too much attention unless someone they know if fighting or dieing over there. we (most people) go about our lives the same way we did before sept. 11. people still flock to violence in the movie theaters these days, Arrow. the only thing that will keep people away from the gi joe movie will be how sucky it is.

And Sigma 6........ahhhhhh, Sigma 6. I have a hazy memory of watching some nonsence aname with Hawk's son and a dog being chased around by a big robot in one episode. That was enough for me. That was NOT GI Joe.

I suggest we all soak up and appriciate Resolute while it lasts. I know I will be.

Makes you wonder what big damn deal is...that we would have an anti-terrorist group of some sort? God forbid we have people we can count on to stop bad people from hurting innocent people. I think the movie or even the cartoon here, don't even play around with the notion of preventive measures to stop terrorism, but clearly shows a reactive process to violence at the hands of Cobra. Russia is laser nuked FIRST, no politics or diplomatic negotiations involved. They STRUCK...they KILLED...now G.I.JOE comes in to save the day, no politics just good old fashioned defense against another terrorist attack. If Hollywood wants to make it more political (like in real life) all they have to do is portray CC as a victim of circumstances created by the world or the U.S. and has retaliated against society and our corporate greed and mis-doings, and then show G.I.Joe to be more of the aggressors who CAUSED him to destroy Russia and it goes back to when we tortured his son with some water-boarding.

THAT...would make it too real and current....so I guess they're playing it up just as they need to, so as not to offend the sensitivites of the more liberal-minded military haters.

I'm 46 and I've not only heard such rethoric, but I've seen it firsthand...there ARE people who depise the military. Bill Clinton was even caught up in a bit of controversy over his admitting to "loathing the military" very early in his political career. Glorifying war is the big issue these people get their panties in a twist over, and that's hardly any new or profound information there. I'll ignore your swipes at Iraq and Hannity or Limbaugh. My contention is over this attitude towards G.I.Joe as a "WAR TOY" that's harmful to young little boys and their mindsets, and I HOPE you're not going to argue that fact as well?

So many things to say! The cartoon was amazing. Sigma 6 (and the movie imo) are too different from the source material to get most regular fans attention. I understand some things can be too closed off from non-fans (try saying jay and silent bob strike back w/o the other movies for example) but this seems just right. We have background guys for us (even firefly seems to count as this to me) but we have the stars, Duke, Snake-Eyes, Scarlet, CC, and Stormshadow. I love that focus on a view but allow us fans to see our favs. This to me, seems so action driven, like not only G.I.Joe but the best of all action toons, grown up. I'm hoping this will catch on!

Friday i was in a store, and they had 2 resolute five packs, today they were gone they had been setting there for a couple of weeks so i'm hoping this is going to help move some product. Cause in the end, that's what it is all about for Hasbro.

That mystery black guy, is probably ripcord, I don't love it, but as great as everything else so far, i can accept it.

as for all this political talk, this country has clearly shifted drastically to the left. There are people who hate the military, there are a large group of people who think talking it out, even with people who want to kill you is the best way. Sadly this people are ignoring history (sure, let him have that little track of land, Hitler won't go any further at all, sure give North Korea some food and money, they won't build anything if we give them that... etc....) I've also thought Joe would house more conservative members of action figure fandom, it is part of my love for Joe. I've always wanted to Sign-up, almost went to West-point out of Highschool, and i've regretted that I didn't for years

Wouldn't it depend on the "war" though? I don't think MOST audiences that like action/adventure/fantasy/violence type movies are going to snub a military movie during a "war" against terrorism, no more so than an audience would snub a TV drama like LA Law or C.S.I. that deals too much with REAL life violence and crime and slicing and dicing up of the victims, which more than enough people in the country have probably had a loved one murdered and would find it too much to watch something similar displayed on their tv's, the very act of which their loved one went thru after death. If there's enough morbid fascination with all THAT out there, to keep the show renewed each season and 10 more just like it popping up...I'm still not so sure of why soldiers DEFENDING freedom WHEREVER there's trouble, against OBVIOUS (not suspected) bad guys who wear masks....would be unpopular during any time? Unless you're the "bad guys"? Do we really care what they might think?

Not to keep this off topic, but I did want to add a couple of last things.

Ok, sure. There are people out there in the world that are out there on the fringe, the extremists. On "both" sides of the political fence. Of course you will get a small element of people that hate anything, be it military, gays, black folk, what have you.

I'm not speaking of that fringe element...I"m speaking of your average everyday person. I've never been to a political rally.

And yes, there's elements in society that want to downplay violence and try to monitor what toys are appropriate for whatever age group, and I'm sure there's some that bring their political views to work with them in doing so. But, I doubt most of those people would tell you to disband the military, or that they hate the military, or protest or whatever.

And I think alot of people mix up "hating the military" and "hating what the military is doing". Big difference that's lost on a whole lotta people. I certainly don't hate the military. There's some kids out there really trying to be Steve Rogers and help people. That said, imo the Iraq War was an disgusting, atrocious abuse of power and a display of what a few corrupt, money driven individuals can really do given the keys. I know people will likely balk at some things I'm saying, but it's simply my perspective, and I can sit back here and back up my thoughts all day, but I"ll save ya the reading!

Do you sit back and dissect EVERY BATTLE in EVERY war as well? Make decisions on which battles were NECESSARY and which ones were a waste of lives and offered absolutely no gain in the victory of the overall WAR? Which of those BATTLES against Nazi fascists and Communists were merely a "disgusting, atrocious abuse of power by corrupted, money driven individuals"? It isn't because it is the military, but because it is somethin that is occuring right now

A good example are the watchmen comics whereas pirate comics are popular when compared to superheroes comics. The reason given was that because superheroes are common in the watchmen universe, people wouldn't be into superheroes as much as something that is fantasy base. Since swashbuckling pirates do not exist anymore, they seem interesting to the common comicbooker goer in that universe
