I wonder why it took all these years to make figures from that show

I guess it was the conflict between WB and 20th Century Fox that kept anything from being made? toys, dvd's, etc...

I don't know, this is just a theory, but is it possible that they're only merchandising product from the 1966 Batman movie?

So far all that's been shown is B&R, Joker, Penguin and Riddler. all of them were in that film. The surfing and Bat-tusi versions could be considered variants of existing characters.

They've only shown two Catwoman figures. One was a Barbie with the classic head (no likeness worries there), and the other was a bobblehead and it was clearly Lee M. and not Julie N. (they both wear the same costume, so maybe they figure no one will notice?).

As far as Batgirl, the only thing I've seen so far is a Halloween suit, and that could be a separate deal of some sort, who knows? It's only the costume, so they wouldn't have to be concerned about dealing with Yvonne C.

I guess my point is, I think people hoping for more villains (and Batgirl), and waiting for the show to be released on DVD/Blu-ray are setting themselves up for disappointment. The reason the show hasn't been put out yet is because of the legal mine field it would take to do it, so maybe the powers that be thought, "Hey, why not just come out with stuff from the movie? Most of the cast is in it, as well as the big name villains! BRILLIANT!" . I don't know about anyone else, but I could TOTALLY see that happening. Why not, right?

I might be wrong, but I really don't think I am.

Food for thought.

The Batusi figure is based off the first episode of the series. The Surfer-Bat 2-pk. is based off an episode from the last season (the Batgirl season). I don't think they're limiting themselves to the movie so much as, like the movie, they're concentrating on the big guns from the show.

All we can do is hope that Batgirl, Gordon, O'Hara, and maybe Shame are waiting in the wings.

That's just it. It doesn't matter which episodes they're from, they're still variants. The Bat-tusi Batman is just the Adam West figure with different hands ( which they'll probably change so they can make one holding the bomb, which is also from the movie ), the surfer 2-pack is just B&J with bathing suits and surfboards. Really not any different from multi-colored Batman from any movie line.

And Mattel IS limited in what it can do. They can't just make any figures they want, they can only make what they're allowed, and I think that's just the charactors from the movie.

Gordon and O'Hara I can see, maybe BG in a separate deal, maybe.

Shame, I doubt it.

Again, maybe I'm wrong. I just wouldn't get my hopes up.

It's been a while since I last posted here, but I have to say, I was wrong.

When I first heard that Mattel was making '66 Batman figures I thought that they would ONLY be doing charactors from the movie.

Well, I was wrong, and glad that I was.

I don't know how deep in the well that Matty's going to go with the selection, but Figures Inc. looks like they're in it for the long haul, and good for us.

Egghead, Bookworm, Mr. Freeze, Shame... they all seem like potential figures at this point, and that's pretty boss.

So please allow me to apologize for my previous statements.

Again, I was wrong, and again, good for us.

lol I can't wait to see the Julie Newmar Catwoman

The 60's Batman show is stuck in licensing hell......WB owns the rights to Batman/DC comics/etc....and 20th Century Fox owns the rights to the 60's Batman show.(it was also originally aired on ABC)...so its a total mess. Around a year ago WB FINALLY got back or obtained licensing rights to the show.....this is also another reason why we still do not have the show on dvd at all. Plus, getting it on dvd is going to be next to impossible....figuring out who gets a cut of what. We're lucky to be getting anything honestly.....
