Future of MOTU minis

So with the 2015 motu minis subscription getting axed, do any of you guys hold any hope in seeing them being released somewhere in the near future?

Personally, I still hold a little hope that series two will be released at some point. The last updated post before the cut said the sub was up to 40%, so by the time it was canned, the actual number was probably closer to or just passing the 50% mark.

With the inclusion of the connect and collect Snake Mountain, most people will opt to buy the whole set for the sake of having that to display next to their Grayskull. I believe many potential customers were turned off by the "only subs will get the Snake Mountain pieces". I personally don’t like the sub idea. I'm the type of customer that likes to buy as I go or wait until all figures are released and buy the complete set - which is what I did with Grayskull. Reading that bit about Snake Mountain made decide to pass on Mattycollector and just buy a complete set from ebay, otherwise I would have waited to buy them all from the Mattycollector store.

I'm confident that if they went ahead and released the series two minis with the Snake Mountain add-ins that the line would sell well. If they wanted to make it a definite home run, they should replace He-Ro, Jutsu, Hord trooper, and She ra with Triclops, Man-E-Faces, Whiplash, and Teela. Then for SDCC, they could release an Evil Lyn and Sorceres set.

I'd like to hear other peoples thoughts on this.

Here's hoping!!

The minis were doomed the moment Mattel decided to change the size from what He-Man and Skeletor were at SDCC. It made the two most important characters out of scale with the rest of the line, and it wreaked of greed on Mattel's part (I know, I know. Mattel only charges what they "have" to in order to make money).

I agree with your replacement ideas for the second series. That would certainly help the sales. I like most of the character choices, but price was the dagger after the change in scale made me seriously lose interest.

Agreed, The scale change was the single most stupidest decision they made with the minis. Mattel just doesn't get that most ADULT toy collectors want a toy line that has consistency, and not be charged up the ying yang for the product.

Maybe if they re-released He-Man and Skeletor in the smaller size, perhaps as a 2 pack at a decent price... more people would have embraced the minis.

PLUS... I think people simply didn't want to start collecting yet another MOTU line, while they were already neck deep in MOTUC.

It's funny, Mattel will take a gamble with stupid cash grab items like these, but they don't have faith enough in the brand to bring it back to the mainstream... and market it towards little kids. MOTU has the potential to be a smash hit again with today's kids... but Mattel lacks vision.

i too thought it was foolish to release the "rest" of the line in a different scale. that said, i prefer the smaller scale over the larger initial figures. but i do wish that matty had reissued the original style heman and skeletor in the current scale. i mean i love the battle armor versions, but i would prefer the traditional versions.

i wouldnt call these a cash grab. i feel that these are unique enough and interesting enough to be a legit sub product. the quality of these minis is fantastic! when i compare this line's figure quality, in hand feel, construction, paint aps, and packaging to other toy lines (TMNT, TF's, DC, Marvel, etc.) i feel that the motu minis are equal or better compared to those other lines. sure, pricing could be better. i feel that $20 is fair and that is comparible to Marvel/DC figures containing Build A Figure parts. if mattel ditched the additional box/tissue paper and even simplified their blister, they could probably save money that way. i never cared for that additional box/tissue paper...seemed like a waist of money and resources.

Maybe that's the solution or savior of the line: He-Man and Skeletor re-released in scale with the rest of the line. I know I would be tempted more to get into it (I was already tempted without them).

yeah, a good thought for matty to reassessitate this line would be to realease two SDCC exclusive sets. the first set could be a traditional he-man/skeletor in the new scale w/some kind of special packaging/insert for SDCC purposes. They could then reissue them without the SDCC special insert for the masses to purchase on matty.com shortly their after. My second SDCC exclusive would be a minis style battle cat/cringer/panthor in scale. that MIGHT be enough to trigger the sales needed for series 2. though, i still think matty should make the character swaps that i noted above.

i dont know...i guess i'm just pipe dreaming, but man i just really dig this line.
