I'm digging that SWAT Destro. The vest seems pretty cool and shows that someone understands what Destro's function in Cobra was. He's the armorer of sorts, and it stands to reason he would have a large amount of stuff he keeps back for himself. That bulletproof vest looks awesome.

I'm worried about the Storm Shadow/Tunnel Rat pack, simply because it looks like Tunnel Rat needs an M-60 just to be packaged with everybody's favorite ninja. ;)

Well at least its drivable, now I can bring some large custom vehicles. I also did that drive in 01, it is a little....flat there. Whats that for you Aly, has to be around 15 hrs. At least this year I dont have to deal with supershuttle and airports for the con. Plus I wont have to ship items home so I can buy a bit more.

Getting the most white dots in the center circle is very important to maximize attendance.

To a lesser extent more white dots in the bigger circle will help too because it will still draw people with a reasonable day drive.

Sure there's people who fly and will go anywhere so you always have a core crowd, but if you want to maximize attendance you need to fit more white dots in the circles. One thing about putting it on the coast is half of the circle is out in the ocean.

That's why Cincinnati is such a sweet spot with thicker white dot concentrations in every direction.

BOTCON 2009 in California I predict will have at least a 30% drop off in attendance compared to the record attendance in Cincinnati.

It's probably more expensive to book conventions in the better areas also. Seems if they paid MORE to be in a better locations though, the higher turn out would pay for it anyway, but who am I trying to second guess the powers that be? ^_^

Yeah, I seem to recall it taking us about 16 hours the last time. The only way I'll be driving is if gas prices stay low enough to offset airfare, plus the luggage charges for my inventory....and it's carpooled. Any way about it....yuck.

Oh, and the in hand pics the other guy mentioned were mine. TRat's head is not good, IMO.

I am not sure the turnout rate for the joecon 2003 in SF didn't have a bad dropoff rate. No offense, but I think there are more TF fans than there are joe fans based on cartoon series and action figures. Besides, Pasadea is a popular tourist attraction in sourthern cali and there are a lot of tf fans in cali.

There's definately bigger attendance to the TF conventions than the Joe Conventions. If you compare the TF convention in Cincinnati to the California TF convention I'm expecting a considerable drop off because of the location. There are as many TF fans in california directly proportional to white dots is the point. Statistics would indicate that.

On a side note, don't forget the $25 bag check fee for each bag which is something new to impact convention flyers this year too. Two bags checked both ways would be $100 ouch.

BOTCON has benefited greatly in the past and helped to build it up more by consistantly having much better con locations than JoeCon has had in the past.

looks to me like there's a whole helluva lotta white dots in the New England area.....

Yep, it's almost one continuous "megatropolis" from Boston, Hartford, New York, Philedelphia, Baltimore and DC. East coast in that area would pack a lot of white dots in the inner circle. The only thing that hurts the coast is like I said, half the circle is out in the ocean where there are zero white dots.

Look at the circles comparing Cincy and KC and you see how overwhlming it is of many more white dots in the circles for Cincy. KC is not a very good choice for attendance purposes. Having bad location choices every year for JoeCon continually perpetuates the perception of the Joe fan base being a bit smaller than it really is. It won't show its true potential until they get a better location choice with bigger population density in drive distance to JoeCon...then all of a sudden you'll have a record attendance at JoeCon and that would be good for GIJOE.

Norfolk and Atlanta were the bigger attendance JoeCons, and that's just easy to see on the map up there.

The lower attendance JoeCons are always way out in the fringe locations like Dallas, NO, KC and Minn.

Are you telling me to fly out to Denver and hitch a ride!? I think that's what you just said!

The comic pack look fine, but I get the feeling they're just slapping the Resolute name on them. None of the figure have that Resolute feel to them.

As for the Con, I might have to attend this one since it just up the road. It would be my first and I think with this year have the movie and Resolute being released it could be interesting.

I have been to KC once back during the mid90's at Kemper Arena. Oh its tempting right now but I have to choose either botcon or Joecon. Botcon I can also go to Disneyland. What is there to offer in KC?

The world famous Kansas City Royals
