Thundercats - R.I.P.

Recommended Posts

I hate to say it but Mattel needs to pick up TC and add it to their MOTUC line... It would extend the life of the line... Its a damn shame but we all had a feeling Bandai could't get it done...

According to the article, it was CN that killed off the line, not Bandai. Even if Bandai had made more classic TC figures, the toyline and cartoon would still be canceled.

Remember, CN tends to cancel good cartoons. They did the same thing with the 200x cartoon - like the recent Cats cartoon, they aired MOTU200x on an odd and inconsistent schedule before killing it off. If Mattel had gotten the license instead, who is to say that the classics line would have last longer? Remember the Voltron modern and classics line that they accquired? The modern line was non-existent especially when compared to the modern Thundercats line. The classics line did its run, but barely managed to. Bandai isn't to be blamed here.

The cartoon is only there to advertise the toys... Bandai treated TC like a step child... They were too busy pushing Ben 10 and Power Rangers... This was evident at the toy conventions... Once the toy line died so did the show...

If it's anyone's fault, it's CN. What more could Bandai do? It's not like the figures were hard to find, and they had a 4" scale to satisfy kids with vehicles and playsets, and a 6" scale for the older collectors. They may not have been as good as the other 6" lines, but at least they were in stores. Can't say the same for MOTUC since it's not available in stores, and as a line appears to be shrinking every year as Mattel continues to push their subscription model.

Another thing is that it may have just came at a bad time. You look at the other shows that are doing well on CN, and they're nothing like Thundercats. I just think Thundercats is ten years too late.

Too bad it's not like the old days where you could get cartoons on syndication!! I think cartoons would fair better on non cable television!

Imagine a nice lil block of afternoon cartoons!! Maybe even bring back Saturday morning ones?? Ahh the good ole days!!

I think this is great news. CN just took a story line and put the Thundercat name on it and expected us to bite. It was an OK show, but it wasnt Thundercats. I never supported Bandai getting the license regardless of the show. When I think Bandai, I think Power Rangers and I hate Power Rangers. Besides if they would have put out more classics and more 6 inchers out the first time the line would still be around without the show. They didnt realize it was collectors who where going to buy the line, not moms and kids.

Mattel should absolutely get this line. Say what you will about Mattel, but theyve put out alot more DCUC and MOTUC than Bandai put out Thundercats. As MOTUC and DCUC appear to be fadding, Mattel needs to put something out that will intice the collectors. Thundercats would be that line. They should also do Silver Hawks and more Voltron.

I like Bandai, their higher-end stuff like the SH Figuarts DBZ and SH Monsterarts figures are some of the coolest toys out right now, but I didn't really feel these figures. I thought the Minimates were actually the coolest new Thundercats toys to be honest.

But I don't think it would have mattered who was making the toys or how good they were, the line's survival was totally dependent on the show and whether or not it could appeal to kids. Look at the TMNT line. We wouldn't be getting a second wave of classic figures if the Nickelodeon show and the figures based on it weren't a hit. I don't think a nostalgia line based on an 80's cartoon can survive at retail on its own these days.

CN is more available than the Hub.

Well guess what it will have to be an alternative for somebody because CN acts like they are the end all be all

What does that even mean? I'm not saying CN is better than the Hub, I'm just stating what I've seen.

Wow really?

I said that CN acts like they are the only game in town ...

Which is why it should be a sub with Mattel. Playmates ought to look into it too for TMNT Classics.

Aw I really liked the new cartoon. I thought it was up there with ATLAB. We will probably never hear about the Thundercats again. This is the optimal time for it's resurgence, if it doesn't happen now, I doubt it will ever happen.

Plus if Mattel handled the line, they'd blame the fans for it's failure. I wonder how things would have turned out if Nick had the rights to the toon? You know it would get more air time by being on both Nick and NickToons.

i blame all these tv channels. back in the 80,s i had 2 tv channels who got the most amazing cartoons. now nearly every tv channel has some cartoons running and even if they are good, i believe kids are lost with all these channels really quick. specially when airing changes all the time. there is just to much out there for a show to last long enough to make a profit.

My guess is Tron is done. That show has to be incredibly expensive to make with all the star studded cast which means it would need really really high ratings which I doubt its getting on a network that isn't even carried by all major cable carriers. Not to menton the show is to adult oriented for that network. Tron also tends to be one of those properties that has a following but not necessarily with kids, kinda like Star Trek. Even the last movie only did so so at the box office and the toys bombed. Yeah rumors are Disney is looking at a Tron 3 but overall indications have not been strong for the brand. That being said I do think its to bad cause the Cartoon is good.

I watched Legend of Chima this week and man, is that a rip of Thundercats or what. Now I see why cartoon network canned thundercats despite the ratings. They had legos thing coming down the pipe and didnt want to compete against themselves. Chima has huge money behind it, lego is pimping that line out with posters, advertising, games and toys. Heck I saw backpacks and folders with chima this week at Target. Why wouldnt CN go with a brand that the kids are into. Plus lego has mega bucks to push a project, look at what they did with ninjago. It stinks the cats didnt get that kind of push, between CN and Bandai they really didnt have a chance. Oh well at least we got 26 epps, some toys and a few laughs. Guess we only have to wait another 30 years for a new line...damn im going to be 70 I bet before I see new T cat toys...lmao.
