Just for the record, I'm not hatin'. I DO feel that stunts like this are classic Mattel MO but as the saying goes, "it is what it is".

I do business with Mattel. I have a box full of their DCUC stuff to prove it. If I was a fan who bought the SDCC Doomsday under the "Well, this is as close as I'm gonna get" impression, I'd be a bit miffed because I do feel that this was the business plan all along: release a figure that they said they would not. If you're excited for the Unleashed version, great!

I posted before that I'm just gonna stick with my DC Superheroes Doomsday and I think that'll still hold true. New Doomsday looks cool but it's way bigger than the original art depicted him to be. For me the 6" scale is fine.

Neca's cool. As long as they don't release this "8-bit video game" Keaton Batman http://toynewsi.com/...hp?itemid=22973 claiming that they will never make a regular version, then I go and buy it thinking "Well, this is as close as I'll get..." Then they go and release the regular Keaton version anyway. Such a hypothetical situation would anger me @razz@ @bats@

not thrilled about having to take another Dr. Zaius to get Zira and Ursus. And having to choose trunk color/battered head combinations for the Rocky line was loads of awesome. Just saying...:P

"Funny" really is the word.

If you love the toys Mattel puts out and realize the crap they pull and are still willing to play along, fine, your choice. But if, at this point, you're still sitting back shocked and appalled when they pull something like this, there's no helping you. Playing games has been their MO for years!

How much do you want to bet this figure ends up being at least $10 more than the SDCC version?

It's the principle of the thing. Yeah, we are toy lovers and enjoy collecting them... but we also don't like being tricked and manipulated by a shifty brand manager (at least I don't). There are some who would have skipped (suited) Doomsday all together if they knew (regular) Doomsday was infact going to be released, and Scott knows this. Should most fans revel at the fact that they now can have both versions? Yes... but they also have a valid reason to be pissed for being manipulated into buying the version which was advertised as being the ONLY version fans will get.

Another reason why fans are complaining is because all of this is happening in conjunction with the MOTUC sub drive. Scott has gone against what he said regarding Doomsday... so that is making people wonder about the alleged "falling short" of the 2015 sub.

I'm a fan that wants both versions.

But its been stated many times that Mattel needs quite a bit of lead time in to manufacture a figure....a lot more time than what has been a lot for the unleashed figure.

Ergo, unleashed Doomsday has always been planned and the fans have been mis-led.

On a similar note: I don't buy what has been constantly said about needing 12-24 months in advance (or whatever time it is) to make changes to figures and other similar excuses. It seems to me that many explanations are given, then contradicted all too often when it suits the company. For those MOTUC fans, do you remember Moss Man's flocked ears?... and the last minute change to unflocked ears? They didn't need too much time to make that switch among other examples that escape me at the moment. Sure it was only a deco change, but still... there were a few tooling changes made to some figures in the past that didn't take 6 months much less 12-24 months.

@loll@ That actually might happen, now that the 6inch articulated line is going to be up for grabs. Maybe DC Direct will grab it , they have come along way with quality and articulation but who knows.

See that's the thing we really don't know the situation, none of us are insiders that have first hand knowledge of the ins and outs of company operations. We take bits and pieces of info and connect them to assumptions based on feeling.

So they have the molds and new tooling they used to make the mock up but no green light on mass production which can happen as fast as a phone call or text.
This I know because at least with Apple they have a manufacturer in China that is on call for when ever they need to mass produce a product. Now back during Steve Jobs days he decided at the last minute that the he did not like the glass on one of the new iPhones so he changed it and by the end of the day the Chinese factory was in full production , they can do that because octopus dens are legal in china.
But I don't know if that's the case. We don't know what production factories they use their capacities, who are the ones in charge of green lighting products and it seems a waste of time to get so worked up about something we truly don't know the full story on. I mean there some people out there that even if the board members of Mattel came out and laid out every detail about how the process works they still wouldn't believe it. I guess no justice no peace @loll@

It's called speculation... No one is getting worked up about anything. Your absolutely right... we don't know for sure. What we do know for sure is the brand manger is deceitful and he's already been proven to be a compulsive liar, that IS a fact ... so knowing that only reinforces the possibility of shenanigans across the board.

one positive about this Doomsday trickery is that there is finally something to shake the cobwebs at the TNI forum. It's been dead in here, save for bullshit Star Wars rumors.

I mean let's get real. Is Mattel dealing from the bottom of the deck with this Doomsday thing? Probably. But is Hasbro really any different with their twenty dollar a pop "swap-figures?"

I thought DCD already has the license for the TV and movie DC figures. I thought that's why this figure was being made styled in 8 bit video game colors because there's nothing that prevents them from modeling product off of antequated 8 bit video games. It sounds flimsy to me but if it's on the internet then it has to be true right?????? @loll@

http://thefwoosh.com...e-four-horsemen

"It’s the toy we never thought we could make, but it’s happening! In a final farewell to theDCU Signature Series and the Four Horsemen, Doomsday arrives… bigger, badder, and totally “Unleashed!”

He was never supposed to see the light of day, but when the powers that be saw the amazing mock-up of this bad boy, they were completely blown away. We got the green light, and the Four Horsemen got to work. We’re stoked to offer this final figure to fans as we say goodbye to the DCU Signature series.

When he arrives later this fall,Doomsday will appear as he did in the best-selling DC comic of all time,Superman #75, where this menace from the stars killed the Man of Steel. This fully articulated figure stands 9” tall and in scale to the 6” tall Superman™figure. He includes the shredded cape of Superman™, which is removable, and arrives in huge window box packaging celebrating the completion of the 6” DCU Signature Series line.

Check back for all the details when he goes on sale. In the meantime, you’ve been warned… Doomsday is coming!"

Who exactly are the "powers that be" and why cant they tell us HOW MUCH?

Yeah I also am utterly confused how the "powers that be" changed their mind after seeing the mock-up. Did they just summarily dismiss the notion of producing the more fan demanded version of the character due to the higher tooling costs (even after the subscription failed to go through)? And if some corporate big-wigs can ultimately make the determination regardless of expressed fan desire and previously stated reasons for not producing the figure just because they were impressed by a pre-production sample (but more likely based on marginal benefit and potential profit projections), then why even have that stupid subscription thermometer? The Four Horsemen could just produce cool figures to the best of their ability and somehow "wow" the "powers" into agreeing to production..

And shame on all of you who are allowing Mattel to "fool you twice" in regards to their products. It's actually more like a dozen times at this point that Mattel has been less than forthcoming with the fans/collectors. I don't see how Hasbro's ML swaps are anything like the kind of price gouging stunts that Mattel has pulled with their recent lines.

Needless to say, I won't be purchasing Doomsday, despite my desire to own the character, unless those Chinese sellers on ebay make him available. Mattel gets none of my money.

Ha ha. All of your wondering is for naught. The Powers that Be did NOT "change their minds". Don't believe their line of bull and don't over think anything here. This. Was. The. Plan.

This is the second time someone's referred to Hasbro's ML swaps. I honestly don't know what this means. Can someone tell me?

You can still get a Doomsday that's properly scaled to the way he first appeared in the comics. It's from Mattel's DC Superheroes line. That's the one I went with. The only reason he doesn't get love is because some fanboys think anyone super-strong needs to be at least Hulk sized or taller. So one day they decided to label him "shrimpy".

Still waiting for the cost to be announced.

If they're charging $30 for repaints then how much will this cost?

I have the same Doomsday in my limited, Superman theme characters display, bro. While I would have liked the larger Doomsday, its only because I don't possess any larger Superman villains except Darkseid. I agree though, the DC Superheroes Doomsday is perfectly fine for me.

Triumph- I forgot about those 30 dollar repaints/should be accessories they are releasing soon. It's so sad that we couldn't even get a new head for Superman after all this time. And that my Wally West I waited forever for has 2 different sized legs. And that they never made a proper Kyle Rayner, or ever made a Conner Hawke, or even fixed that lanky suit body that they reused all the time.

I wonder if DCC will ever get around to a deluxe 52 Doomsday and what he will cost...especially compared to this

Whenever people pull out their "they never did give us a...."list, it always makes me remember how at peace I am with my DC collection.

DC Direct did an original costume Kyle and a Wally West that I'm perfectly happy with. Conner Hawk? Might be nice but can definitely live without. Yeah...there's really no stand out character that I desperately want. Losi Lane....maybe....?

Feat, my guess would be DC Collectibles does do a New 52 Doomsday and that it will be the same cost as a Darkseid or mutated Joker.

My bet for Mattel's "final figure" price? $70. A good chunk of which will be a spite tax, getting back at fans for letting the sub die.
