Wizard World Philly report

Recommended Posts

So first of all, I've never given a con report so I'm just going to bullet point things. Second this isn't all Masters related but the majority is.

I spoke with Cornboy, told him how much I loved pretty much everything they do and then playfully tried to get some new info out of him.

1. He might have been wrong about release dates but he told me Hordak was June's release, MAA was July's, He-Ro was the con release,

Tri-Klops was the August release, Teela was September's, and Webstor would be October's. He would not reveal November and December.

However he did say that November's release would be a huge surprise that no one would see coming. He also went on to say that it

should be more of a deluxe release. I don't know what that means specifically and he would not elaborate. I think he realized that was

something he shouldn't have said and sort of clammed up after that.

2. The base body type for female characters in the MOTUC line were not the same as those used for DCUC. The completed Teela figure on

display proof of this, as the hips are wider and the thighs thicker that the Hawkgirl figure also on display.

3. Webstor was also on display and looked fantastic. I did not ask any questions about him though.

4. Both of the 2-ups for Egon and Ray were on display, but not behind glass. They looked fantastic and you could see the articulation. They

will not have all the same POA that DCUC and MOTUC have. He characterized them as more of a collectible piece and not toys.

5. Bill Murray has NOT yet officially approved his likeness. Cornboy told me that he heard Murray saw and liked the prototype but they need

him to sign off before the figure can be made. There didn't seem to be any worry in his voice about this and Mattel is going forward with

production. Strangely enough, Dan Akroyd does have the legal authority to approve the figure although he won't do so. The 2 up for

Winston will be on display in San Diego.

6. The 12" figures are NOT made by the Horsemen. In fact they had nothing to so with them. It's all Mattel on them.

7. Even he has trouble finding DCUC at retail.

I did not attend any panel discussions b/c no one really shows up at WW Philly unfortunately. Case in point, DC and Marvel were both no-shows. I do have some pictures and will try to upload them later.

Thanks a lot for the update! Did they have any new DC Universe Classics figures on dispaly. I noticed there was a Question prototype underneath the Teela in some photos I found online.

I did not see any DCUC figures not previously seen. There was a Question 2-up on display and I did a picture of him. Pics are below. Not all MOTUC but still all cool stuff. And as a side note, when are we getting a Ghostbusters forum?

hmmmm, I spent all night trying to figure this one out. If its a figure that would be considered a deluxe one then it would have to include more than what the average figures have come with. I'm putting my money on a Count Marzo 2-pack that includes a bonus figure of his dwarvish hermit look when he was cursed.

I say King Hiss. Just cause.

Im going out on a limb and say that if its big enough to be a deluxe then its either Modulok or Multibot. He did say nobody would see it coming, and those two are pretty far out there.

I hope it's not Battle Cat. That would be a little bit of a letdown since we know he's coming, and Toyguru has said he'll be on display at SDCC. I hope it truly is a figure right out of left field somewhere.

Are you kidding me? Battle Cat is going to be HUGE and there is no way in hell that he will fit in a MOTUC blister card. Besides, Mattel has already confirmed that Battle Cat will be available in early 2010.

ADDITION INFO

Ok I talk to them too and they said the line is going great and will far surpass the 2002 line. They have figures planned up til 2014. I thought that was great. Teela was amazing looking.

Also Mattel is trying to get the Thundercat license but they will be DCD scale if they get them which is an inch shorter than MOTU.

Interesting stuff. I watched Thundercats as a kid, but wasn't really a fanatic so I never owned the toys (kinda like MOTU). Still, I'd be interested in seeing how Mattel handles the franchise, especially if the Horsemen are involved.

Oh wow! I think that is the best news I have heard from Mattel since they announced the MOTUC line last July! Where did you here about the Thundercats? At the panel or from Cornboy?

If you read all the Mattel Q&As from different sites, they have revealed alot of info. Here are just some of the hints that Mattel has passed along:

2-packs are coming

Battle Cat will be on dispaly at Comic-Con

There will be around 6 brand new MOTUC figures on dispaly at SDCC

Orko is confirmed

1 NA figure and 1 POP figure have been confirmed for 2010

Hope this helps!

No, I'm not kidding you. And who said anything about blister cards? November's figure is unknown at this point. Mattel hasn't come out and said that each month the figure released will fit on a standard MOTUC blister card. Look at King Grayskull -- he came in a box.

I don't believe the figure will be Battle Cat. I just stated my preference that it not be him.

And when did they confirm Battle Cat for early 2010? I've read every Q&A on every site for the last 10 months and I don't remember hearing a confirmation of Battle Cat in early 2010.

Dude, Grayskull was a Convention Exclusive figure which is why he was boxed rather than carded. Battle Cat was confirmed to be released in early 2010. Read the quote below straight from He-Man.org:

8) Will Battle Cat be released early in 2010, or rather lately?

He will be released early in 2010. More details will be announced at SDCC.

Faker was a convention exclusive, too, but he came on a regular card (though he became March's figure, he was originally to be just an exclusive). He-Ro is also a convention exclusive that will have a standard card. Grayskull was boxed because of the electronics and packaging he came in, not because he was an exclusive.

Anyway, I think of Battle Cat as a character rather than a beast or vehicle, so that's why I could see him coming boxed but as a regular monthly figure.

I stand corrected on the Battle Cat confirmation, though I was thinking I missed something more specific.

Battle Cat was announced back at NYCC.

and according to Mattel in one of our Q&A's he will be bigger than a regular figure

TNI: You mentioned before that Battlecat would be coming to the MOTUC line. Will something like this cost the same as the other MOTUC figures or will it be more; if more can you tell us how much so people can plan to save up for this one?

Mattel: We are still looking at the price point, but yes, Battlecat will be larger than a regular figure and will be higher priced.

I do remember Mattel stating that at the end of this year they were going to release a figure to solidify the fact that

this is a collectors line. Now I'm really excited. I also believe and hope that its someone completely out of left field

because it will be likely that they have have never been released before, I don't think its an obscure character that

has been released, I could be wrong, but that's the vibe I'm getting with so much mystery surrounding this unknown.

A lot of people have theories, but based on Cornboy's words, I honestly don't have a guess. I'm pretty sure I'll be excited with whomever it is, though. I'm kind of thinking that the character will use some parts we've already seen since most/all of 2009's figures have other than Teela. The part about no one seeing it coming is what throws me because as MOTU die-hards, there are few (if any) we wouldn't see coming. Maybe Demo-Man? @hmmm@
