Days of Future Past trailer is up!

Aside from the fact that Wolverine is once again the center of the multiverse....

That looked intriguing. Interesting to see some more comic-accurate-than-usual designs for some of the characters (Bishop, Warpath, and Blink most notably).

But I'd be down for any movie that somehow manages to cram in Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Peter Dinklage, and James McAvoy into one screen. Seriously, the cast for this film is pretty nuts in terms of quality actors, if you think about it.

Agreed. There isn't a dud in that bunch.

When people complained that First Class lacked a lot of A-list mutants, I was betting that the Xavier/Magneto relationship would be enough on its own to carry the film, and I was right (that's my "I told you so" of this post :) ). So Fassbender and McAvoy are awesome. And then of course you have Stewart and McKellan who are equally as good. How is old Xavier alive? I don't care, as long as Stewart's on board.

It looks ok, at this point I just hope they fix the continuity, the movie was already too crowded and they keep adding to it. I'll bet it just ends being Wolverine and his back up singers again.

I hold out a -tiny- bit of hope that Wolverine's part actually ends up being kind of small (like "Go back in time, deliver message, done")...but I doubt it.

Also suspecting the "future" stuff may be like...the first fifteen minutes of the movie and that's it, but we'll see....

yeah wouldn't be great if he got disintegrated by a sentinel in the first fifteen minutes like in the Days of Future Past comics.

This is pretty much what I expect. I liked the trailer, and am anxious to see the movie, but like the others I completely expect it to be centric on Wolverine with the others playing a support role. Though it does seem to be keeping Xavier highly primary, like First Class. I'm just hoping they balance the multitude of characters better than X3 did. Just remember, it is an X-Men film, so expect very small roles for everyone all around. But I really liked First Class, so I can't wait to check this one out, too.

That's the thing, they keep adding to the cast and at first I got the fanboy reaction of "whoa there's Bishop and Blink is also gonna be in the movie" and then I remembered that this is the franchise that is known for not being of capable of balancing multiple characters at once successfully and I got weary. Maybe I'm wrong I'm hoping I'm wrong but with so many characters and at least 2 versions of Magneto and Xavier, well I'm not hopeful for many of the characters going beyond a 1 minute cameo. I'm not saying that the movie is gonna suck but as of now I'm lowering my expectations and hopefully be pleasantly surprised like with First Class.

I just wanna go on record now, for all that usually brand me a Marvel hater out of the gate, that I have commented several times about my love of the x-men franchise and general excitement for this film, and that if I dont end up liking it in the end that the movie has some glaring critical failings, or that my expectations were too high, or it could never match my intial excitement.

This appeals to me, Steve Rogers 2 does not...but go ahead and scream TROLL

My main thing with the X-movies is that I'd like to see a more hard-hitting core cast. Wolverine, Prof X, and Magneto are all handled well. But where's Colossus, Nightcrawler, Gambit, Cyclops? Yes, they were all in the movies but they were more like little helpers than full fledged team members. Some showed up randomly, appearing in one movie and absent in the next. Get a solid core team together and spread the wealth of screen time between them a-la Avengers. And then develop them. I realize the time allowed for this in a 2 hr movie is finite and I accept that. But maybe choose to use and develop one of the above heavy hitters more as opposed to using screen time to give cameos to C and D listers.

Anyway, this is my main thing with the X-films. That and the fact that X3 screwed up all the continuity. Other than that, I like the movies more than it sounds like in this post.

That's what they should have done in the first place, First Class had the right idea but the wrong cast of mutants, had they bothered to make something like that but with the more popular and recognizable mutants then they would have been greater movies. As it is the movies are enjoyable and can be great if you love Wolverine but I feel they have a lot of missed opportunities especially when you consider the rich source material. Is it wrong to ask more from a movie based of one of comics' most popular teams?

Well bout time the X-Men are back in top!!! After the abysmal X3, we got back to form with First Class!! Now back on tip with this one, I'm sure of it!! Even if Wolvetine is used a lit, as long as the story is well done!!

I was looking through the image gallery and I just love this pic. That IS Wolverine right there. The X-Men movies have not been perfect but Jackman has nailed it every time.

Jackman's always been good. He's not the problem, really. Hell, I even like Wolverine as a character, but unfortunately the movies have basically made him THE character, and the wealth of other X-Men folks basically become support players for him. Cyclops in particular was so wasted it was almost criminal (though I hold that they cast him too young in the first film, which didn't help).

X-Men: Apocalypse will be the next X-Men movie.

I know it will mean divvying up time between Wolverine and all the C and D list mutants....But maybe THIS one will be the one where MAJOR X-Men character Cyclops finally gets a respectable amount of screen time. After EIGHT movies. Do ya think?

Kind of doubtful given that he's dead in the movie-verse, unless something in DoFP happens to change that.

You mean like Prof. X?

I want to see some time traveling highjinx in Future Past that undoes that death. It wouldn't be that hard, we didn't even see Cyke's body. Prof X got blown apart and he's back. How? I don't even care. I'm just glad he is.

A while ago when Singer was first named as director of the new movie I remember reading something where he eluded to his being able to change stuff around and "undo" things if he felt the need to. I hope he had that bogus Cyclops death in mind.

I also really hope this is a turning point for the movie franchise. I love X-Men. The comics have been untouchable for so long (yep, I even tried again just recently), I need X-Men in my geek life. GOOD X-Men.

And he still loves playing the guy. Even if every X-Men outing isn't a home run, as a fan it's good to see the actor care so much.

Touche, but....

1. They actually hinted at Professor X's survival in at least one version of X3 (or was that just a deleted scene?).

2. Cyclops doesn't have fantastic telepathic powers to help save him (can't just project his mind into someone else)

and

3. We certainly haven't seen hide nor hair of him on the cast list for DoFP.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to get Cyclops back, but I think that ship may well have sailed. Wolverine rules the roost, and because of the eff-ups with Cyclops from the get go, we'll likely never see an interesting...much less particularly featured...version of him on-screen. It's not like audiences beyond the die-hards like us are exactly clamoring for the character's return.

Quicksilver:

(I have a feeling I know what the response will be...)

As soon as these pics posted, internet chat rooms went . . . Tick. . .Tick......Boom!

I personally don't like the look and can't wait to see what Whedon does in Avengers 2 with Quicksilver's look.
