Rebuilding my Trade Collection

I am currently rebuilding my trade collection with essential storylines from Marvel. I have pretty much all of the Avengers and Cap Trades or HC's, but I am looking to reload some of the other great storylines from the past for my collection. Some to me are no brainers, such as the Claremont/Cockrum/Byrne X-men Run (GS1-#140), but I was wondering what other stories do you feel are essential Marvel trades should you own?

The Infinity Gauntlet is the first one that comes to mind. X-Men Days of the Future Past also but it sounds like you've already thought of that. Secret Wars would be another good one if you're into that. There are several different versions of the original Wolverine mini-series. That's a solid read.

I found this in a discount bin a couple of years ago and all my friends have borrowed it at one time or another. You can probably get it for $5 and it's a fantastic story.

The Planet Hulk trades are also very solid reads. I've enjoyed those a lot over the years.

And don't forget about Old Man Logan. Probably one of the best stories from the past 3 or 4 years.

The main ones I have on my wish list is the K. Smith/Bendis/Brubaker Daredevil run, the Micheneline/McFarlane Spider-Man Omnibus, and the Simonson Thor trades.

I have picked up most of the crossovers like Secret Wars, Infinity Guantlet, House of M, etc. I just picked up the complete run of Morrison's X-Men.

If I could find the Wolverine Adamantium Collection for under a hundred, I would probably pick that up.

Ah....don't forget the classics Winsor Smith Weapon X!

That is on the wish list as well, from Wolverine, I was thinking the Claremont/Miller series, Weapon X by Windsor-Smith, Orgin, Old Man Logan, Enemy of the State/Agent of SHIELD by Millar, and Blood Debt by Skroce.

Would anyone recommend Remeder's X-Force? I have been enjoying his Secret Avengers, Uncanny Avengers, and Cap stuff so far, but have not read any of X-Force.

Remender's X-force is cool, some good stories there but my problem with it was that out of the 5 members 3 are overrated ones I don't really care about.

See if you have a half price books in your area, my brother gets good deals there all the time.

Same here! Pretty much the only place I buy trades, and I get a teacher discount!

We don't have any chain used bookstores here, but there are plenty of independent ones around because there are three major universities within 20 minutes of my house. I do find deals at those from time to time.

Captain America's "Man Without A Country" story with the Serpent Society might be a good one. Not sure if it was ever collected into a trade, though.

If I can make a dark horse suggestion (not the company, just the colloquialism), take a look at the "Agents of Atlas" trade paperback. I found it to be a very enjoyable read. It also included a few design/production notes, some in-continuity gags, and including reprints of the first appearances of all the characters concerned from throughout Marvel's history (Atlas/Timely, et al), including the first appearance of the team in an issue of "What If?" that inspired the series.

I liked it, anyway. ;)

I have the "Man Without a Country" tpb. Thanks.

I agree with you on the Agents of Atlas, it was a fun read. I am currently trying to track down the last three trades that Jeff Parker did with these characters ( Gorilla Man, Atlas, and The Last Uranian).

Thanks to everyone who has posted suggestions. It really helps to be reminded of some of the great stories from back in the day.

Which Spider-Man trades do you recommend? I have the first JMS Ultimate Collection and the Ultimate Spider-Man Omnibus, but was trying to determine which other stories I should try to pick up. Kraven's Last Hunt and Reign are two that come to mind, but any input would be helpful.

I always thought that Kraven's Last Hunt is amazing.

I'd suggest getting a Masterwork or something that'll collect the first bunch of issues. The first 25 issues of Spider-man are awesome.

Also I recently saw a collection of the Hobgoblin stories from issues around 238, 239, 244, 245, 249, 250 - that kind of stuff. Those were always big faves and the stories that got me back into Spider-man. Love that stuff.
