  1. I love when a toy company makes figures most people may not realize they want or need. That is the story of today's review as we look at WWE Elite Bob Backlund. We want to extend our thanks to Mattel for the review sample. The packaging is the standard Elite box that we already know what to expect from Mattel, showing the figure within and an image of WWE Hall of Famer Bob Backlund in the upper right corner. Taking the figure out of the package, he comes packed with a championship belt and has a real cloth robe and towel around his neck. The toy looks like Backlund, not so much how he looked at his height of popularity, but close enough. The Mattel scan technology has really improved over time. The figure retains all the points of articulation that is expected from the Elite collection. Head turns. Shoulders, elbow, and wrist all move freely and the inclusion of extra hands are always a nice addition to any figure. There's ab crunch, waist turn, hip joints, double knee joints, boot cuts and ankle articulation as well. Overall, the figure has a wide range of movement. His title belt is the stuff of legends and it looks absolutely perfect. If you are not a wrestling fan, then there is no way that I can convince you why you need to own a Bob Backlund figure. His contribution to wrestling as one of the pre-modern era baby faces won't sway you. But if you are a fan and know your history, then you know why adding Bob Backlund to your figure collection is a must! Overall, he is a 3 out of 5 Thank you again to Mattel for the sample. 2. Well, WWE Universe action figure completists, it's "time to face the facts." WWE's very own undisputed loser, Curt Hawkins, makes his Elite figure debut with two different ring gear colors. Trained by ECW original Mikey Whipwreck, Curt Hawkins made his wrestling debut in 2004 and has been an active wrestler ever since. We want to extend our thanks to Mattel for these review samples.Mattel has graced us with not just one, but two Curt Hawkins Elite figures. Honestly, it took me a few minutes to even notice that they were in fact different. With one just having black pants instead of blue. The repaint seems a bit unnecessary, but sometimes being a completist is a dangerous slope. I don't feel this "chase figure" is required. His New York Mets color inspiration is what you would normally see him wearing. The packaging is the standard Elite fair that we come to expect from Mattel, showing the figure within and an image of Curt Hawkins in the upper right corner.Taking the figure out of the package, he comes packed with two extra hands and a large WWE Raw breakaway sign, which is an awesome prop to throw the fact bringer through, as well as his cane/walking stick. The sign has two leg rests that support it upright so toys can be thrown through it. Since Hawkins is a lover of old school ECW, having packed with a breakaway sign really harkens back to the hardcore days. The toy itself looks exactly like Hawkins. That shouldn't be a surprise as the Elite series has amazing face scans. The figure retains all the points of articulation you have come to expect from the Elite collection. Head turns, shoulders, elbow, and wrist all move freely and the inclusion of extra hands are a nice addition to the figure since he does come with a "weapon" he can hold. There's ab crunch, waist turn, hip joints, double knee joints, boot cuts and ankle articulation as well. Overall, the figure has a wide range of movement, which is to be expected, but not technically needed, for the undefeated loser. If you are not a wrestling fan, I don't know how I can recommend this figure since Hawkins is a guy who has almost lost his place over the past few years. His current position is almost as a joke, which devalues young fans from wanting to own him. But, if you are a wrestling fan, this figure works with other figures in your 6 inch collection. Overall, he is a 2 out of 5.Thank you again to Mattel for the samples.Don't forget to leave us a comment and tell us what you think.Follow Rob on Instagram @alternativemindz and on Twitter @altmindz.
  3. Mattel WWE Elite 63: Shelton Benjamin Before I post the review, I'd like to say that if you don't have the WWE network do yourself a favor and sign up for a free month and watch the Edge and Christian show. Today I'm going to review a former amateur wrestler, billed as the Gold standard, one half of "The World's Greatest Tag Team" and a staple of the ruthless aggression era Shelton Benjamin. We want to extend our thanks to Mattel for the review sample. Mattel has graced us with not just one but two Shelton Benjamin elite figures. Granted that one is just a repaint or as we collectors call it a " chase figure". The gold standard was a unique look for Shelton, a VERY unique and distinctive look. The packaging is the standard elite fair that we come to expect from Mattel, showing the figure within and an image of Shelton Benjamin in the upper right corner. Taking the figure out of the package, he comes packed with two extra hands and a large step ladder. The toy itself looks exactly like the gold standard. The figure retains all the points of articulation you have come to expect from the Elite collection. Head turns. Shoulders, elbow, and wrist all move freely and the inclusion of extra hands are a nice addition to the figure. There's ab crunch, waist turn, hip joints , double knee joints, boot cuts and ankle articulation as well. Overall, the figure has a wide range of movement. Which is to be expected for the relative high flyer His accessory for both the regular and chase versions is a ladder which is something he use to be known to use and even competed in a few classic ladder matches. It can fold and open like a regular ladder and is made well. If you are not a wrestling fan, I don't know how I can recommend this figure since Shelton Benjamin is a guy who has his place in years past and who is currently an active member of the roster, unfortunately he really hasn't done much to garner attention, but if you are a Wrestling fan this figure works with other figures in your 6 inch collection. Overall, he is a 3 out of 5 Thank you again to Mattel for the sample. Don't forget to leave us a comment and tell us what you think? Follow Rob on Instagram @alternativemindz and on Twitter @altmindz
  4. WWE Elite Pete Dunne Before I post the review, I'd like to take a moment and pay our respect to one of the greatest wrestling interviewers, "Mean" Gene Okerland, who passed away this past week. Pound for pound one of the best British wrestlers in recent history is now officially immortalized in plastic. We want to extend our thanks to Mattel for the review sample. With his smaller size, distinctive look, and a wrestling style that makes people pay attention to him, Pete Dunne joins the ranks of other modern wrestlers with his Elite figure. The packaging is more than your standard fair, showing the figure within and an image of Pete Dunne in the upper right corner. Taking the figure out of the package, he comes packed with two extra hands. I would be hard pressed not to mention the lack of UK title, which should have been included with this figure. The toy itself looks so much like Dunne that it's almost unnerving. The upper lip curl is cool and all, but I would have preferred his standard scowl look. The figure retains all the points of articulation you have come to expect from the Elite collection. Head turns well even with the hair going past his neck on the one side. Shoulders, elbow, and wrist all move freely and the inclusion of extra hands adds to the figure. There's ab crunch, waist turn, hip joints , double knee joints, boot cuts and ankle articulation as well. Overall, the figure has a wide range of movement. The jacket is removable and is made of a semi soft plastic. If you are not a wrestling fan, I still feel this figure works with any 6 inch collection. He would fit into any Mad Max type post apocalyptic storyline or even something like a villain for a superhero line. If you are a fan of wrestling, then you know how amazing Pete Dunne is as a wrestler. So adding him to your existing collection is a no brainer. My true gripe was the lack of a title belt and possibly a second more standard head. Overall, he is a 4 out of 5 and a must own. Thank you again to Mattel for the sample. 6. If its Mass retail sure Hasbro But I feel that 4 horsemen ( with their massive Mythic legions line has really proven that a small group who are passionate can not only make a great toy line but do their best to keep the collectors informed and happy)
  7. Retrofest Honky Tonk Man Review He is the Honky Tonk man ... he's cool, cocky and bad! One of the longest reigning Intercontinental Champions during the Hogan era. Mattel has finally immortalized Honky Tonk Man into the Retrofest line. The Retrofest series is a fun collector driven series that pay homage to WWE (WWF) retro arcade game. Huge thanks to Mattel for sending this figure my way to review. The packaging is absolutely one of, if not the best, packages you can possibly pick up as a collector. It looks like you could actually play the arcade game. Every bit of the cabinet is so detailed and would look good on anyone's shelf. Taking the figure out of the package, he comes packed with a guitar, which feels a bit small for the figure and he can only hold it with his open left hand. Honky Tonk Man is an Elite figure and sports all the articulation that the Elite series offers. Head, shoulders, elbows, wrist, waist, hips, knees, and ankles. Honky Tonk Man comes with a fabric jumpsuit and my "gawd" does it stand out. The homage to Elvis is crazy on this thing. From all the music notes on the legs and sleeves to the full cartoon image on the front of the outfit is such an eye sore that it's just too perfect. On the back, there is this great image of Honky Tonk overlooking himself inside a pink Cadillac with Suzie. His face sculpt looks more like Honky Tonk Man now than he did in the late 80s or early 90s, but it still works. The jumpsuit can be removed, but what would be the point of that? The Retrofest Honky Tonk Man is ready to shake, rattle, and roll into your collection and if you are a gamer and don't own these figures, stop reading and go pick these figures up ASAP. Now, in all transparency, I am not, nor have I ever, been a fan of Honky Tonk Man, but the figure is significant to own if you are a fan of vintage WWF wrestling or a fan of wrestling games. I give the Retrofest Honky Tonk Man a solid 4 out of 5. The minor issues like a small guitar and a more modern face sculpt shouldn't deter any wrestling fan who needs to have Honky in their toy collection. 8. Halloween is merely a week away and I finally get to do something Halloween and wrestling related. Mattel and WWE have been doing some fun stuff with their Zombies line and who better to review than the Demon king himself, Finn Balor! Thank you to Mattel for the review sample. Zombie Finn Balor comes packaged in a slight redesign of the zombie packaging that has become a stable of the series. It seems a bit more streamlined than the previous packaging and, I feel, a bit more eye-catching. The Zombie line has been a fun and creative use of wrestlers. It's fun to take them out of the standard wrestling world and venture into the absurd and wacky world that toys are meant to be. To take it even further, I'd love to see a comic or animated series of wrestlers as zombies and monsters. Finn is a great wrestler to be used in this way since he does sport demon makeup at times, making the leap into a zombie is completely an obvious choice. The articulation is beyond standard with elbows, hips, "neck bones", shoulders, and knee articulation, but the play factor escalates with the look of this figure. Whoever is sculpting these figures, please give them an award. So creative and so much fun. This figure isn't for the regular wrestling fans seeking the highest points of articulation and most realistic sculpts of their favorite superstars. This is for another subset of collector and casual fan. We already know fans of horror and Halloween who are buying the zombie series to use during their decorations of the coolest holiday ever! Adding Finn to anyones collection is a must. He would fit in anyones horror or fantasy collection. As a toy, it is 100% fun and imaginative, but if you are seeking something more than just a monster looking creepy zombie figure, this probably isn't the toy for you. With that, I am giving this toy a 3 out of 5. Well sculpted and looks great but won't be something that all fans want to have. Guys let us know what you think and leave a comment below Follow Rob on Instagram @alternativemindz And on Twitter @AltMindz Thanks again to Mattel for the review sample
  9. Thank you, no for a basic figure she is just fine. This series isn't meant to be a high end collectable but there is something a bit off about her face.
  10. Rowdy Ronda Rousey makes her debut as a standard figure in the newest wave of Mattel's WWE basic line as part of series 90. First off, thank you to Mattel for the review sample. How does this figure stand up against the person it is trying to emulate in plastic form? Let's first look at the packaging, which for some odd reason seems to be different for the line this time around. Nothing super obvious, but it feels more streamlined than previous waves. But, that could just be me? The image of Ronda is great and the way she is packaged really gives the impression of importance (I'm really not trying to fluff this piece), but I honestly think the new packaging (if it actually is new) helps to make the figure stand out. Now, with that all said and done, let's talk about the figure itself. It is a basic and standard figure that is fully-clothed, leaving Ronda without her signature wrestling gear. With that in mind, I wish she would have come packed with Rowdy Piper’s oversized jacket, but it might be possible we will see something like that in an entrance package figure later on. Points of articulation: this is as standard as it can be with this line. Head kind of turns, but is hindered by her hair. Waist, elbow, knee, hip, and shoulder joints, pretty good but nothing stand out. I believe this figure will sell well for two reasons. One, for the customizers who are looking for an affordable women's body buck to make their own figures, this figure works well. Two, this is our first chance to collect Ronda as a toy. Unfortunately, her face sculpt is super generic and not enough that you would automatically say “Hey, that’s Ronda.” But, once again, this body buck can be used for almost any female character. If you look, you can see they painted over someone else’s ring gear. Even so, it's a good reuse of parts. But as it goes for it being Ronda, well, it will do and this line is the most affordable standard line for wrestling toys to date. Good, solid, and durable, but if you are a collector this is currently your best and only option for getting Ronda in the ring with other female icons of wrestling. She is a 3 out of 5, but since I believe Ronda would roundhouse kick me if I keep talking, I'll leave it at that.
