Dick Tracy Attends SDCC 09 With Shocker Toys

As for him being Black & White, it's just a neat little "exclusive" thing they did. He had some B&W comic strips back in the day. So I think it's kind of cool that they made figures that resemble that.
If you're not a huge fan of the B&W figures, fear not. The full color figures will be on the way as well. Those are the ones that I'm really excited to see at Comic-Con next week.

However beyond that single improvement they have not changed anything else, and the faults with the sculpt still exist. This figure would be much improved if it had a decent sized neck in proportion to the head, just like Dick Tracy is always drawn. Figures like ML4 Punisher have captured the look, so it's easy to do. The arms and legs are too scrawny, and there's no reason they couldn't have been sculpted to look less scrawny. You can't tell me the figure would not look better if it matched the artwork more.
I still don't understand how you think the hands and face have been improved if the sculpt has not been altered. How do you improve something without changing it?
Really, perhaps it's time to let go of your personal vendetta against me. Does every post I make about Shocker need to get a reply from YOU, attacking me personally? It does not effect you personally if somebody doesn't like something Shocker has made, so stop obsessing over it.

But hey, no you're totally right. Shocker Toys should absolutely listen to all of your ideas. After all, you plan on putting so much money into their product right? Why wouldn't they want to listen to your ideas? You're backing them so much, they really should make every change that you suggest. *Sarcasm Off*
(in all actuality, you probably Really are their Number One Promoter. Even though you're just trying to trash on them. Keep on raising those sales for em SWH. Great work.)
At any rate, the All New All Improved Dick Tracy figures look Amazing! Couldn't possibly be any better. I think that the fans will be happy with so many wonderful changes that were made to this figure.

If Shocker had any common sense, they would pay attention to the feedback from people who won't buy the figures unless they're better. What's the point in listening to feedback from people who will buy the figure regardless? The goal should be to improve the figures so more people want to buy them. I cannot fathom how the Shocker braintrust have decided that arguing with SWH = money.
I agree that I do a lot for Shocker too. All my posts have probably brought far more attention to this company than they'd otherwise have received. Thanks for acknowledging that.
Anyway, I've done a quick photoshop to illustrate what a big difference my proposed improvements could have made to this figure. Of course it still needs better sculpted hands and a few other parts. But just by making the neck thicker, raising up the collar more, as well as thicker arms and legs (and making them straighter and less lumpy looking), the figure is well on it's way to looking more like Dick Tracy should.

Someone mentions getting a freebie Isz figure (which everyone got, who attended the Shocker Toys panel) and this is what it turns into? Classic! But we've been over this before. We're all well aware of how you love to make these wonderful accusations.
Yeah, here's a link. This is where Geoff's faisco at CBR started. It's a long thread and the pertinent information is many pages into it, so it''l take some digging. Happy reading:

WWH, go back and reread this thread, if you would please. There were no personal attacks on other posters until you came into it. Then when people defended themselves against your personal attacks, you do the whole "let's just talk about the toys" routine. You have derailed this thread.
You really do come off as jealous of SWH for having had such an enormous impact on the success of Shocker Toys. From the incorporation of so many of his suggestions to improve the product, to changing how they treat customers because of him pointing out shortcomings, to just keeping their name in the "news," Shocker Toys has improved greatly because of SWH, at least in part.
And what have you done, WWH? Your uncritical praise for everything and anything Shocker related has not led to any improvements, either in product or service. Your histrionics on message boards have only reinforced the old Shocker image of being unable to take even the mildest of criticism. I know you take being Geoff's #1 fan very seriously, but what you are doing isn't helping. You have hurt the company and the man that you say you love so much.
Shocker Toys appears to have left their troubled past behavior behind. Maybe you ought to do the same.

Also, what's up with the black and white thing? Character Options is doing the same thing with their Doctor Who Figure. WTF
The Doctor Who figures are in black and white because that's how those Doctors appeared on TV. It's a smaller run for folks who want to see the figures that way. There are color versions.
Basically the same thing Shocker is doing. Dick Tracy has always been a black and white comic strip. So they've recreated them to reflect that. However there is going to be a color version to reflect colored Tracy comics that have appeared through the years.

SWH- I gotta say man, this is what all your fuss about the Dick Tracy figure is over? Thicker arms and a Thicker Neck?
Is that really worth the time of creating endless posts of complaints? Worth taking the time to photoshop the picture? Worth taking the time to upload it to photobucket? Worth taking the time to post again complaining about how the toy didn't end up the way that you wanted it?
You're not always going to get your way in life. When you come to terms with that you can start the healing phase of letting go of this age old dispute that you have against Shocker Toys.
It's not like you would bought the figure anyways, even if it did turn out exactly how you wanted it. Then you'd be supporting Shocker Toys.
Better yet, make your own toy company. Then you can make all the toys in the world. And they'll be exactly how you want them.

Wow, I was sort of half joking, but you really are jealous of SWH!
SWH and others have suggested improvements, and Geoff has listened to them. Everyone is working together to make better toys. And now you're telling them not to discuss other things that need improvement. You're mocking him for doing what has proven successful in the past. That's odd behavior.
Please relax, wwh. You are, without a doubt, Geoff's #1 fan. Even if/when Geoff incorporates the latest suggestions of SWH into his figures, no one will ever argue against your very special place among Shocker fandom.

I think you're confusing us. I never said the new figures weren't an improvement.

Wow, yeah, those are awful. (SWH probably blocked them from his memory, and that's why he didn't notice the changes. Some sort of post traumatic stress, or something.) Good to see that you have developed a sense of humor and can post these awful pics now.
I remember when you first posted those, and everyone was calling it Chick Tracy. (Everyone except WWH, of course. If you had listened to him, look at what you'd be stuck with, lol.)
Anyhow I'm happy to see that you've been making the changes to your product and the way you conduct business that people have been telling you to.
Also happy that you have come back here. Don't be so thin-skinned this time and run away again when the conversation isn't entirely to your liking.

So once again, people jumped the gun to rip on Shocker Toys product. If they'd have just saved all of their comments until seeing the finished figure, they'd have spared themselves countless posts of complaining over nothing.
The Dick Tracy packaging looks sharp.
*sarcasm* yeah the artwork on the package looks nothing like the figure that was made.

Yeah, you keep rewriting history to massage your ego.
They were prototypes. Shocker asked for critiques. Critiques were given. Changes were made.
Don't be angry now because you didn't participate in the process and instead chose to pretend to like something which you really didn't. Were you afraid of being called a "Hater" if you gave your real opinion on the prototypes?

I understand that the shows and strips were in black and white and I respect that some may prefer a black and white figure. I just don't get why they would want it. But I don't get why some people collect half the stuff they collect. I'm really looking foward to the color figure. I hope it really does well so that SHOCKER will produce a whole line of Tracy figures with villians and all. I really like the 90's Movie, have the figures that came out then, but I want something new.

The prototypes were shown with every intention of releasing them like that if people had been happy with them. Why would Shocker intentionally waste money making a crappy first tooling, if they planned to make a better one later on? They obviously saw that people had given them valid criticisms which they then implemented in order to improve the figure. Explain to me then how people "attacking" Shocker by finding fault in an early prototype has "hurt" the company? They never tried to sell Chick Tracy to anyone, the figure they're actually selling is better thanks to feedback. It's actually helped them to make something that now more people will buy.
Listening to someone like yourself WWH is worthless for Shocker. If they listened to you, you'd tell them the figure was fine, and they'd have released it the way it was. By listening to things that myself and other have said looked bad, Shocker will now sell more products. Maybe not to me yet, because I'm still not happy, but certainly to others who are happy with the figure now, but hated that first prototype. If my goal in life was to "destroy" Shocker, I'd have kept silent and let them mass produce that hunk of crap and send themselves bankrupt.
People didn't jump the gun to rip on a Shocker product. If people hadn't given any feedback, they'd have released the prototype they'd already spent money making. Geoff can't be stupid enough to spend money making an intentionally crappy prototype, then completely redoing it to make a better one. Give the man some credit. He made the better one because people told him how to make it better. If he didn't get so defensive, and was actually open to all criticism put to him, he could have improved it even more.

The trenchcoat one looks good, imho.
Though, figures of the movie would of been better.
I really want a figure of Mumbles...
