RIP Ralph McQuarrie

Aw man...this one really hurts me. I never met the man, but I've always admired his contributions to Star Wars. God bless him. I just hate seeing all of my heroes get older and pass away. It's part of life I know, but it's still very depressing.

I remember being delighted that they actually interviewed him for the DVD releases of the original films. He seemed like a very likeable, approachable man. And he's directly responsible for the look of the film. Heck...it was his illustrations and sketches that convinced the bigwigs at 20th Century Fox to greenlight Star Wars. Next to George Lucas the man was Star Wars as far as I'm concerned. May God rest his soul and bring peace to his family.

Long before I knew his name, I remember the ESB trading cards w/ his concept art, the concept paintings in the 'souvenir' books, the photo of McQuarrie working on the Cloud City landing platform matte painting, etc... One of the early fan club premiums was a poster of his 'trench run' painting (http://ralphmcquarrie.com/gallery_1/star_wars/misc/index.html - 2nd row, 1st) B)

Y'know, you guys just reminded me...I don't think I ever got that figure. I have most of the "McQuarrie" series figures, but not the man himself.

I have that and the figures that came from his artwork except starkiller
