GOTHAM

So I wanted a show about BATMAN, not Bruce Wayne as a child. It was an idea born from my frustration with season one of Arrow, which I viewed as a knock-off wealthy vigilante crimefighter with a C-list/D-list supporting cast. So I started writing what I felt was a REAL vigilante crimefighter show, as it should be, based on an A-list hero like Batman, with an A-list supporting cast. I'm not sure if I'll post this in big installments, or week-to-week, but here it starts.

GOTHAM

Season One / Year One

Based on The Long Halloween

Season One explores the origins of Bruce Wayne, Batman, Selina Kyle, Catwoman, the crumbling state of Gotham City, and some of its most dangerous and nefarious criminals. While the city is plagued by the Falcone crime family, the combined forces of Batman, Lieutenant Jim Gordon, and D.A. elect Harvey Dent work to restore law and order to Gotham, much to the detriment of their own personal lives. A serial killer, known only as Holiday is taking a life on a holiday every month, usually connected to the Falcone family. Meanwhile, a new brand of super-criminal is being born, as Gotham is faced with the emergence of Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, Riddler, Joker, Catwoman, Hugo Strange, and The Mad Hatter. By the season finale, the identity of Holiday is revealed, Harvey Dent is radically transformed into the insane villain Two-Face, and Gotham City will never be the same.

1.1 Pilot / Darkest Knight

Bruce Wayne returns to Gotham City after a philanthropic tour (but also a cover for some covert training) to find crime on the rise.

Rehabilitated Oswald Cobblepot has opened a bar/restaurant/casino called the Iceberg Lounge in the heart of Gotham Harbor, which is actually a front for Cobblepots criminal activities as The Penguin, connecting him to every illegal game in town. The Penguin is allowed to operate the Iceberg Lounge as long as he is a reliable informant to Batman.

Lucius Fox and Wayne Enterprises organize a gala to welcome his return, which is attended by Selina Kyle, who pockets valuables after dancing a seductive tango with Bruce Wayne.

Wayne dons the cape and cowl of Batman once again to help clean up the city he calls home, working with old associates like Lieutenant Jim Gordon and reconnecting with old friends, like recent D.A. elect Harvey Dent.

Vicki Vale of The Gotham Gazette heralds the newsworthy event of Bruce Waynes return, but grows suspicious by the return of Batman around the same time and begins investigating Wayne and the timeline of Batmans activity.

On Halloween night, the first victim (Johnny Viti) is murdered in what will become a long line of serial killings on holidays by an unknown killer, identified as Holiday.

1.2 Feline Felony

At Thanksgiving dinner, tensions are thick between Harvey Dent and wife Gilda as they are questioned by Gildas parents about when they will start a family of their own.

Harvey Dent later confides in his friend Bruce Wayne that hes having difficulties in his marriage with his wife Gilda because of his crusade against crime (and particularly the Falcone family) in Gotham City. Gilda wants a baby, and more of Harveys attention, but Wayne knows thats not in Dents nature. Dent wonders if he could step down from the role of D.A. to take a more active role in his marriage, especially now that Batman has made his reappearance in Gotham after a long absence. Wayne reaffirms that Dents role still holds great value as a representation of true law and order in Gotham, whereas many Gothamites still view Batman as an outlaw vigilante.

Lucius Fox finds something amiss in the Wayne Enterprises ledger that leads him to discover the truth about the simultaneous return of Bruce Wayne and Batman. Fox confronts Wayne, but is grateful for the return of Batman, and promises to keep Waynes secret and assist him in any way that he can as Chief Financial Officer of Wayne Enterprises. Bruce appoints Fox in charge of developing upgraded weaponry for Batmans war on crime.

As Selina Kyle, inspired by Batman, adopts a costumed alias, Catwoman, to break into the Falcone family penthouse while theyre away for Thanksgiving, she inadvertently stumbles upon a murder scene that appears to be another victim of the Holiday serial killer (Louisa Falcone, wife of Carmine). Batman, breaking in to seek evidence against the Falcones, discovers Catwoman at the murder scene. Catwoman claims innocence and battles Batman to make her escape, but not before expressing how impressive she finds Batman to be and hopes theyll be able to work together in the future.

Its speculated as to what motive Catwoman may have had to kill Carmine Falcones wife. Possible revenge against his wife for Falcone using Selina Kyles mother around the time of Selinas conception?

Vicki Vale follows the story of the potential serial murders going on in Gotham, apparently on holidays.

1.3 Evergreen Holiday

Dr. Jason Woodrue is seeking a grant from Wayne Enterprises to pursue his experiments in botanical biochemistry and his assistant, Dr. Pamela Isley is eager to help her brilliant boss with achieving his goals. When Lucius Fox dismisses Woodrues proposal, Woodrue hopes to gain attention from Wayne by making Isley his living proof that human biology could benefit from plant DNA.

Woodrue manipulates Isley into submitting herself to an injection, which seemingly kills her. Panicking, Woodrue buries her lifeless body in a shallow grave, but Isley later rebounds, and is reborn from the earth with an odd greenish tint in her skin and a natural immunity to toxins and poisons.

Isley had a new outlook and much more aggressive nature, and sought revenge on Woodrue for taking advantage of her feelings and killing her. Commanding new influence over all botanical life-forms, Isley adopts the identity of Poison Ivy and Woodrue dies of massive fungal overgrowth.

Poison Ivy turns her anger on Gotham, due to the holiday seasons botanical genocide in cutting down so many Christmas trees every year, and is apprehended by Batman and committed to Arkham Asylum.

Another victim of the Holiday killer is found, Vincent Falcone, Carmines father. Could the Holiday killer be working their way through the Falcone family tree? Is this some kind of targeting of the father, the son, and the holy spirit in honor of Christmas?

Vicki Vale christens Poison Ivy the first super-villainess of Gotham in the Gotham Gazette.

1.4 Cagey Bird

The Penguin organizes a New Years Eve party at the Iceberg Lounge, and struggles to drum up a confirmed guest list of Gothams wealthiest, because of his checkered past and shady reputation. Penguins true motives for trying to get the wealthy clientele is because he has planned a robbery and wants to be able to pick the town clean of its best treasures.

Penguin personally invites Bruce Wayne, hoping his influence will be able to bring the upper crust of Gotham out for the holiday celebration. Penguin even shares a sob story of his youth, which helped make him the social outcast he is today. Wayne agrees, suspicious of Penguins motives, and invites Selina Kyle as his date.

Penguin arranges for Vicki Vale to nab the exclusive on where Bruce Wayne will celebrate the New Year, which does bring Gothams wealthiest flocking to the Iceberg Lounge.

At the New Year celebration at the Iceberg Lounge, the Gotham City elite come out in droves, and Penguin takes a secret meeting with his goon, a foot soldier for the Falcone crime family, and sends him on his mission to take the place hostage. Chaos ensues, and the Falcone thug makes off with a fair amount of goods.

Wayne and Kyle are separated in the chaos, and while Wayne suits up as Batman to go after Penguin, Kyle goes after the Falcone thug, to rob HIM as Catwoman! Spooked, the thug tries to make his getaway, but gets caught and murdered by the Holiday Killer at the stroke of midnight.

Batman and the GCPD try to peg Penguin as the Holiday killer, but cant make anything stick. Penguin is left wondering where the loot disappeared to when his robber was murdered, while Catwoman enjoys her score in the comfort of her humble apartment.

1.5 Cold Hearted

The S.S. Gotham is being dedicated when it ends up frozen in Gotham Harbor. Investigating the anomaly, Batman discovered the Harbor was frozen via unnatural methods.

On a date with Selina at the Iceberg Lounge, the crowd is aghast when a mysterious man in an insulated suit storms the restaurant and points his gun at each of the female patrons, finally settling on Selina, and using his gun to freeze her.

Wayne works against time to reverse the effects of the freeze gun before permanent damage is done to Selina, while simultaneously trying to unravel the identity of the assailant that attacked her. Wayne uses voice recordings to determine he is (or was) Victor Fries, and remembers he was a victim of his own experiments in cryogenics at the Wayne Enterprises laboratories.

Wayne realizes Freeze targeted Selina as revenge against Wayne for the cryogenic disaster that ruined his life.

Wayne and Lucius Fox develop an antidote for Freezes weapon and neutralize him, but he escapes and steals the antidote in his escape. Its revealed that Freezes wife is frozen in a cryogenic chamber and he hopes the antidote that Wayne Enterprises synthesized will cure Freezes wife, restoring her.

At the second attempt at the dedication and maiden voyage of the S.S. Gotham, Alberto Falcone is shot and falls overboard, killing him, and making him the latest victim of the Holiday killer, on his own birthday, no less.

1.6 Question Marked

Edward Nigma, obsessed with the Batmans deductive reasoning and fascinating mind, adopts the identity of The Riddler, committing some bank robberies and leaving clues at his crimes, hoping to taunt Batman into trying to find him, but planning to prove himself mentally superior to Batman by staying one step ahead of him.

Carmine Falcone is furious when Riddler interrupts a cash transfer between the Maroni and Falcone families, and has his men track The Riddler down. The Riddler fears for his life, but Falcone quickly snags back his money, but interrogates the Riddler, hoping his supposedly superior mind has determined who the Holiday killer is. When the Riddler has no idea of Holidays true identity, they toss him out, only for Batman to finally best Riddlers riddles and intercept him at his hideout.

Falcone hires The Irish, a gang of five assassins, to take out Harvey Dent, planting a bomb that destroys his home, and puts Gilda in the hospital. The men are hauled in for questioning for the murder of Harvey Dent, and they admit to setting the bomb, but dont implicate Falcone in the crime.

Its revealed that Harvey is alive, and was disguised as one of the Irish to trick them into confessing to the GCPD, but since they didnt take the bait, and Harvey wasnt dead, they had to cut the Irish loose.

Harvey and Gilda discover she was pregnant when she was caught in the bomb blast, and as a result she miscarried their child.

The Holiday killer assassinates The Irish shortly thereafter, as they celebrated at their local Irish Pub, Flynns Pub.

Harvey Dent brings Gilda home from the hospital, to a new home he purchased for them while she was recovering from her injuries. Gilda hopes the new home has room for a nursery, and Harvey tells her to check upstairs, as they will definitely try to get pregnant a second time.

While Gilda is upstairs, the Joker has broken into the home and confronts Harvey, questioning whether Dent himself could be the Holiday killer. They scuffle, but Joker spares Harvey, promising to return if he does eventually discover that Harvey is Holiday.

The Joker questions Falcone about who the Holiday killer might be, and shares a personal story that might be the way he became the Joker.

The Holiday killer targets Joker, but deliberately misses, allowing the fool to survive the Holiday and fooling the police into thinking there would be a victim this month.

1.10 Strange Truth

Professor of sociology at Gotham State University and fascinated with the criminal mind, Strange also has an obsession with Batman, and what would drive a man to such extremes.

Strange uses his knowledge of chemistry to concoct a potion that loosens inhibitions, and various forms of this potion have had various effects; one form can be a truth serum, one form enhances aggression (turning the recipient into a mindless rage monster), one form can make the recipient a victim of their own fears, one form can make the recipient malleable and susceptible to mind control.

Strange runs a private clinic for the wealthy, using his methods to help them relieve stress, but also to uncover their secrets to use as blackmail for wealth and power. Strange tries to sell his resort package at Wayne Enterprises and while Bruce Wayne is skeptical, Lucius Fox falls victim to Stranges potion and reveals that Bruce Wayne is Batman. Thrilled, Strange redoubles his efforts to understand the mind of Bruce Wayne, his obsession with Batman deepening all the while.

Feeling an undeniable connection to the object of his obsession, Strange decides to destroy Batman so he can usurp the mantle and with his vast intellect, use the Batman identity to further himself financially, and control the criminal underworld as Batman, rather than squash it.

Only able to enact his plan with Bruce Wayne out of the way, Strange decides to auction off Batmans secret identity to the highest bidder, roping in The Penguin to organize the auction at The Iceberg Lounge. Various high-profile criminals come out of the woodwork to bid on their enemys secret identity, but Strange is kidnapped from the auction and tortured by Carmine Falcones men to reveal the truth.

Strange apparently dies from the abuse, but secretly faked his death to escape, vowing this was not the end of his plan.

He speaks in rhyme as a defense mechanism when in uncomfortable social situations.

Commonly bullied, Tetch invents a mind-control headband using research borrowed from Hugo Strange. Deemed too dangerous by Bruce Wayne, and not useful for any good works, Tetch grew angry and resentful of millionaire playboy Wayne, and vowed to show him how good his invention could be.

Tetch brokers a secret deal with The Penguin to distribute a particular face mask to Gotham criminals, secretly outfitted with the mind control device, and Tetch then uses it to portray himself a hero by thwarting criminal activity while secretly using the device to control the criminals and stop them.

Tetch develops an unhealthy fixation on Gordons rebellious 17 year old daughter Barbara, kidnapping her and gifting her with her very own Wonderland (in a secluded area of Gotham City Park), expecting her to play out the role of Alice and fall in love with him, The Mad Hatter. The mind-controlled criminals play out the other roles in Wonderland, until Batman intervenes to rescue Barbara. Tetch is arrested for kidnapping and endangering the welfare of a minor, and relegated to Arkham Asylum.

I like the Star Trek-heavy cast.

And has someone told Peter Dinklage that he will be tapped to play every midget character from here on out? @loll@

LOL, He is a very talented actor who I have taken seriously since Nip/Tuck, but once he was in Game of Thrones I consider him pretty A-list TV talent!

Only 3 Trek actors, by my count, unless I'm missing something, but I also took inspiration from Heroes, Revenge, Supernatural, V, daytime television, some HBO series...

I have to say I think your cast picks are very good for the most part. A lot of interesting choices. I see so many fan lists that are pretty groan inducing.

Thanks! I tried to keep it realistic with who I might be able to get, people who have done a lot of prime-time network and cable dramas, who would enjoy playing some of these crazy characters. With a small regular cast, the rotating villains could leave the actors with a lot of freedom to still do other things.

Season Two Episodes:

2.1 Mad Love

City Councilman Rupert Thorne is introduced, as a corrupt politician with his mind set on controlling Gotham by rising through the political ranks. Thorne insists Batman is an outlaw and consistently campaigns against him and is determined to sway Gotham’s public opinion in his favor. The Joker’s new devoted follower Harley Quinn started her relationship with him as his Psychiatrist at Arkham, until he manipulated his way into her heart and forged a love that could only be described as “mad”.

2.2 Fear, Itself

Hugo Strange returns as the source of a concentrated fear gas that Scarecrow uses for his criminal activities. Strange makes vague allusions to his secret long-range plans for Batman, but seems to be content with villains like Scarecrow doing the dirty work. Scarecrow targets Batman, and Batman is forced to experience all over again the very deep-seated fears he put behind him years prior in order to become to masked vigilante he is today. Thorne continues his campaign against Batman, using his erratic behavior (thanks to Scarecrow’s fear toxin) against him in the public eye, and backs Hamilton Hill, a mayoral candidate in the upcoming election. Thorne clearly has corrupt Hill in his pocket and would stand to gain a great deal of ground if Hill wins the election.

2.3 The Dummy

A timid Ventriloquist is seemingly at the mercy of his overbearing, abusive, gun-toting Dummy, who is running a mob organization in Gotham City.

2.4 Dinosaur Island

Rupert Thorne dedicates the opening of Dinosaur Island, a new section of the Gotham City Amusement Park. Riddler targets the opening and lures Batman into a deadly trap culminating in a battle with an animatronic Tyrannosaurus Rex. Alfred buys the T-Rex at police auction as another trophy of victory to adorn the Batcave. It’s revealed that Rupert Thorne secretly hired Riddler to entrap Batman, and he’s furious with Riddler’s failure.

2.5 Arkham Trials

Hostages are taken at Arkham Asylum, including Batman, who is put on trial by a jury of his enemies. Joker holds court as the judge, while Two-Face is the prosecuting attorney and Batman is forced to defend himself against the charges that he created the insanity that spawned the Arkham inmates. Batman is rescued, in part, by Det. Renee Montoya, who impresses Two-Face, and launches his obsession with her.

2.6 Strange Bane

Hugo Strange returns to Wayne Enterprises seeking a grant to pursue work researching the effects of chemical treatments on incarcerated criminals in need of rehabilitation. Strange provides Wayne Enterprises with a report of experiments he performed on criminals in a South American jungle prison, with seemingly high rate of success at rehabilitating them. Bruce Wayne is still skeptical of Strange, who is using a rather large bodyguard (Bane) as protection because his important research has made him a target of criminals who would use his work to their advantage. Penguin gets word that Strange is back in Gotham and Strange is once again kidnapped to be forced to reveal the Batman’s secret identity. Thorne is the latest to want the truth about Batman’s identity, but will he believe the truth if he hears it?

2.7 Hot House

Poison Ivy escapes Arkham Asylum with a plan to “cleanse” Gotham of all its citizens, blaming the population for the pollution and city life that has suffocated the natural lands on which Gotham was built. Ivy threatens to release suffocating spores upon all of Gotham unless the city is evacuated within 24 hours. Gotham flies into a panic at Ivy’s demands, but fortunately Batman synthesizes a compound capable of neutralizing Ivy’s spores. Batman is slowed down in his efforts to get to Ivy by her defensive Venus flytraps and constricting vines, but Batman finally shuts down Ivy’s scheme for good, sending her to put her own roots down at Arkham.

2.8 Twice Shy

The polls are showing a swell of support for mayoral candidate Hamilton Hill, which thrills Rupert Thorne to no end as the election nears. When word breaks that Hill is the new Mayor of Gotham, Thorne tells him his first order of business is to fire Captain Gordon (a willing accomplice to Batman’s vigilante justice) and replace him with Peter Pauling, also in Thorne’s pocket. Two-Face escapes Arkham, and creates a string of crimes as a “love letter” to Det. Montoya, expressing what a destined pair they would be. His grotesque overtures are repulsive to Montoya, who rebuffs him and, with Batman’s assistance, captures him. Two-Face vows never to give up on the life they will one day share.

2.9 Harvest Moon

Batman investigates Gordon’s firing from the Captain’s office and his replacement Peter Pauling, and starts to unravel the real plans Rupert Thorne has for Gotham City by overtaking its city offices with his own minions. Batman thinks he might get the true story out of Thorne’s brother Matthew, known in some circles as The Crime Doctor, but to throw Batman off the trail, Rupert arranges for The Scarecrow’s early release from Arkham to keep Batman busy.

2.10 Question Answered

Two-Face’s obsession with Det. Renee Montoya rages on, and his latest rejection by her inspires him to investigate her to find a way to make her his. Alarmingly, Two-Face discovers she’s a lesbian, and then targets her paramour, threatening to kill her so he can have Montoya to himself. Vigilante hero The Question appears in Gotham, working with Montoya to free her girlfriend from Two-Face’s kidnapping, and confessing to Montoya that he’s dying and needs someone with her integrity and abilities to carry on his mantle. Montoya questions her abilities as a hero, but The Question considers Montoya his only answer.

2.11 Bitter Betrayal

After a plot between them against Batman goes awry, Mr. Freeze destroys the Iceberg Lounge as revenge against Penguin, forcing him to have to rebuild from scratch.

2.12 Women's Liberation

Poison Ivy takes Harley Quinn under her wing, and tries to help her realize her relationship with The Joker is unhealthy. But can Harley break free of her obsession and truly appreciate her new friend?

2.13 New Questions

When Riddler’s reign of terror appears to get the best of Batman, Renee Montoya receives a special delivery from The Question, with a note that announces his death. Montoya bravely adopts the mantle of The Question to rescue Batman and bring Riddler’s crime spree to an end.

(Mid-Season Finale)

2.14 Collateral Damage

Selina Kyle takes interest in Janus Cosmetics because of animal testing the company has allegedly done in their research & development division. Selina aims to shut the company down, while CEO Sionis dodges accountability, hoping to save face for his failing company, and in immense debt with new mob boss in Gotham, Rupert Thorne. Meanwhile, Matt Hagen, a down-on-his-luck actor and drug addict, has been using one of Janus’s products that has just been discontinued, and has been keeping him looking rejuvenated in order to continue landing film roles. Hagen tries to steal the Janus formula to try to continue producing Renu cream on his own, but Sionis overdoses Hagen as revenge for Hagen’s plot and ends up turning Hagen into an appearance-altering “clayface”. Hagen works at controlling this bizarre ability, using it to book numerous acting roles because he can now fit any physical type. Hagen’s cells start to destabilize, however, and he starts to appear as though he’s melting. Unable to maintain his physical or mental composure, an unhinged Hagen puts a plan of revenge in motion against Sionis, which may claim Catwoman as collateral damage.

2.15 Black Mask

(continued from previous episode)

Batman unravels the story of Waylon Jones, who long-ago exiled himself from the surface-dwellers of Gotham because his deformity left him a societal outcast.

2.22 Joker's Millions

Joker hatches a scheme with Rupert Thorne to replace all Gotham’s money with counterfeit bills. The Penguin warns Thorne against getting involved with the unpredictable Joker, but Thorne moves forward. Batman is alerted to a string of odd robberies, but puts the pieces together to determine all the stolen ingredients are the components used to manufacture money. Thorne is dismayed when Joker’s money is clearly counterfeit (complete with Joker’s face on the $1 bills), and Joker has apparently made off with all of Gotham’s real cash. Bruce Wayne asks Selina Kyle to join him at a charity fundraiser (for orphans, a cause close to Bruce Wayne’s heart) at the Haly Bros. Carnival, which is passing through Gotham. Wayne spots Joker and Harley “disguised” as clowns and is concerned for their plans. Joker suddenly halts the proceedings and announces that the joke is on Gotham; all the funds they’ve donated have been replaced with Joker dollars. A vengeful Rupert Thorne sent his men to get their revenge on Joker by taking him and Harley out for their double-cross. When shooting went wild, some of the acrobats that tried to intervene and get a drop on the gunmen ended up out on the high wires that wayward bullets struck, leading to the fatal falls of two of “The Flying Graysons”.

Featuring "Gordon's Fall From Grace", "Cataclysm", "No Man's Land", and "World's Finest"

Season Four delves into the history and future of Commissioner Gordon, outlining the reason his marriage to Barbaras mother fell apart, and forcing Barbara to face her fathers one-time mistress and decide whether she can accept a renewal of their relationship. Most of the villains return again to plague the caped crusaders, as do new villains, like Firefly and Lock-Up. New villains are matched with new allies for the Batman organization, Huntress and Batgirl. Mid-season, a cataclysmic earthquake shakes Gotham to its core, leaving it disconnected from the rest of the country and subject to the whims of its most dangerous villains. Lex Luthor, of Metropolis, makes a visit to Gotham to further his political agenda and make a bid for the Presidency. Of course Lois Lane and Clark Kent (and Superman) are not far behind, and might be Batmans best hope for halting Luthors plans, which come to involve Joker and Harley Quinn. Superman and Batman could turn out to be the worlds finest team-up.

But is Penguin’s business any more above board than it was the first time?

4.2 Joker's Wild

Joker’s on the loose and appears to be committing crimes in relation to a deck of playing cards. He targets “the King” (the Mayor), “the Jack” (Commissioner Gordon), “the Queen” (Vicki Vale, Gotham’s leading female reporter), but has yet to strike at “the Ace”, whose identity Batman can’t yet pinpoint. That’s because Batman himself is the target, as Gotham’s “Ace” detective. Batman claims another trophy for his Batcave in the form of an oversized “Joker” playing card that Joker tries to kill him with.

4.3 Flame Out

Pyrotechnic expert Garfield Lynns had a successful career in the movie industry, particularly the action movies that used to star Matt Hagen before his disfiguring experience that turned him into the criminal Clayface. When he can’t find work after trying for over a year, his girlfriend Cassidy dumps him and never wants to see him again. Devastated, he suffers a mental break and burns photos of Cassidy, and then continuing in a fit of rage until his entire apartment burns down around him. Lynns is saved by Batman and Robin, but has nothing, having lost everything in the fire, including his will to live. Believing his misfortune started when Hagen’s career collapsed, he hunts down and provokes Black Mask as revenge for destroying Matt Hagen and ruining Lynns’s life along with him. After breaking up their confrontation, Lynns is committed to Arkham, where he vows to return, his burning hatred inextinguishable.

4.4 Clay Army

Clayface returns reinvigorated (the Lazarus Pit having restored him to a physiologically stable “day one” version of Clayface) and able to create multiple independent versions of himself. One particular portion develops independent thought and doesn’t want to be reabsorbed by the host body.

4.5 Sideshow Freak

Killer Croc escapes from Arkham and stumbles upon the Haly Bros. traveling carnival, joins them as a sideshow attraction, but only plans to stick around long enough to steal the carnival’s earnings, despite the acceptance the other “freaks” have offered him. Robin becomes concerned for the safety of his former surrogate family.

4.6 Familiar Faces

Black Mask returns in partnership with False-Face, founding what they refer to as the False-Face Society. They unleash an army of doppelgangers on Gotham, creating confusion and mayhem.

4.7 Hunting Season

Two warring Gotham mobsters, Rupert Thorne and Guido Bertinelli, are found victims of a double homicide. Guido’s daughter, Helena, decides to put an end to mob violence as well as hunt down her father’s killer, who turns out to be Two-Face, recently escaped from Arkham Asylum. Batman becomes involved and realizes Huntress is too emotional, violent, and unpredictable to be an effective crime-fighter in Gotham.

4.8 Daily Grind

Julian Gregory Day is rejected by the board of directors at Arkham Asylum for his petition for early release, which would have occurred on Thanksgiving Day. They believe he needs more therapy before being able to cope in the outside world and resist temptations to resort to a life of crime. Day firmly believes he is recovered, but the taunts and teasing from fellow Arkham patients that he won’t ever be released causes him to plot his escape, determined to prove to them and the outside world that he has recovered. His escape proves the opposite, and he quickly loses control over his plan, which spirals out of control and causes him to accidentally kill someone that was trying to get him help. Batman and Robin apprehend him fairly easily, but Day has a renewed zest to prove himself to Batman, Robin, and his fellow inmates at Arkham that he can be a formidable opponent and should be taken seriously.

4.9 No Dummy

The Ventriloquist seeks Huntress’s help, when an apparent rival mob family is holding Scarface hostage to cripple The Ventriloquist’s mafia empire. The Huntress comes to realize how twisted The Ventriloquist is, when Batman and Robin uncover the truth: That “Scarface” orchestrated his own disappearance to keep The Ventriloquist from betraying him to the police.

4.10 Fear Less

Scarecrow unleashes a new toxin that removes fear, leaving armies of reckless Gothamites in its wake.

4.11 Holy Matrimony

Sarah Essen and Commissioner Jim Gordon decide they’ve lost enough time and want to get married. Barbara comes to accept the idea of the marriage, but the wedding becomes a planned target for Mr. Freeze, bent on revenge against Gordon for his role in Freeze losing the love of his life the previous year.

4.12 Ladies' Knight

Catwoman perpetrates a major heist at a Gotham Art Museum Exhibit, but the nature of her crime doesn’t immediately point to her as the culprit. While Batman and Robin work to deduce clues, Barbara Gordon suspects they are on the wrong trail and lands herself in hot water when she stumbles upon the next leg of Catwoman’s scheme. She manages to escape, but returns adopting the mantle of Batgirl, ready to take down Catwoman in a way that she’s sure Batman was too enthralled by Catwoman to effectively do himself.

4.13 Seismic Shift

Gotham City is struck by a 7.6 earthquake, destroying much of the city, including Wayne Manor and the Batcave. Alfred is injured, Huntress tries to help search and rescue in the subway system. Barbara Gordon rallied the police force while Bullock and Montoya searched for Jim Gordon. Catwoman tries to help survivors in a department store after a young girl dies in her arms, and later prevented a freed Poison Ivy from tainting Gotham’s water supply. Penguin selectively helps those who would be able to best repay him the favor. Bane escapes police custody in the wake of the quake and murders two bank employees. At Arkham, Joker and Scarecrow murdered two guards before being contained. A mysterious “Quakemaster” claimed responsibility for the quake and threatened to cause another one unless a ransom of $100,000 is paid. Batman and Robin determine the Quakemaster is a new dummy belonging to the Ventriloquist. Gotham is determined by the U.S. Government to be a “No-Man’s Land”, leading to further chaos in Gotham.

(Mid-Season Finale)

4.14 No-Man's Land

(continued from previous episode)

All bridges and tunnels in and out of Gotham are destroyed, leaving anarchy in its wake as Batman’s team and Gordon individually try to restore order to Gotham. Bruce Wayne leaves town to lobby for the government to continue to aid Gotham, leaving Gordon and the GCPD to believe Batman has abandoned Gotham City. Various gangs and villains from Gotham carve up their own territory in Gotham very quickly. Robin, Batgirl and Huntress each try to restore order to Gotham with varying success while Batman is MIA.

4.15 Robinson Park

Clayface attempts to control Robinson Park, and thus Gotham’s fresh fruit supply, but faces opposition from Poison Ivy, who has already turned the park into a tropical paradise and a haven for 16 orphans who lost their parents in the quake. Ivy tries to kill Clayface with a kiss, but he overpowers her and locks Ivy and the orphans in a chamber under the lake, hoping to keep Ivy from the sun to weaken her. A vicious battle ensues between the villains, when Batman returns to mediate and allows Ivy to remain in the Park as long as she is willing to care for the various orphans who have taken shelter in the park after the earthquake.

4.16 Uncharted Territory

Gordon challenges what he believes and goes against better judgment by allying himself with Two-Face to gain a more substantial territory through him. Two-Face is always quick with a double-cross, and hires assassin David Cain to kill Gordon. The murder plot is foiled, but Two-Face puts Gordon on trial for allegedly breaking the terms of their alliance, with Two-Face as both the prosecution and defense attorney. Montoya appeals to the Harvey Dent personality to save Gordon, and Dent determines as a part of Gordon’s defense that Two-Face blackmailed Gordon into the alliance, so any agreement between them is void.

4.17 New Order

One corner of Gotham was surprisingly a safe territory because Blackgate Penitentiary was under watch by Lyle Bolton, who used the opportunity of the earthquake to take his head of security job to the next level and take the identity of Lock-Up. Batman is surprised but relieved to have Blackgate as a safe haven, but upon further inspection Lock-Up is mistreating the criminals he has imprisoned by use of excessive force. Researching Bolton’s history, Batman discovers he’s lost several security jobs and rejected from the Gotham Police Academy for his extreme views on the penal system and his abusive history. Batman feels no other option than to take control of the Blackgate territory himself and add Lock-Up to the list of the incarcerated until Gotham has fully recovered from the earthquake, leaving Officer Montoya in charge of the territory officially.

4.18 Last Gasp

Commissioner Gordon and Sarah Essen decide they’ve waited long enough and want to marry despite all the chaos, but their plans are forever ruined by The Joker, who kills Sarah Essen at the courthouse before vows could be exchanged.

4.19 Rebuilding Bridges

Lex Luthor announces his candidacy for President of the United States, using the government’s handling of Gotham’s earthquake as a platform for his campaign. Luthor’s ulterior motive is to collect as many deeds as he can to acquire much of Gotham City for himself. Lucius Fox stumbles upon Luthor’s plan and Bruce Wayne intervenes to put a stop to Luthor’s evil ploy.

4.20 World's Finest - Part 1

Lois Lane journeys to Gotham to report on the efforts to rebuild the city after the earthquake now that the government has decided to support the restoration of the city. While there, Lois tracks Lex Luthor’s involvement, suspicious of his motives. Lois comes into conflict with Vicki Vale, who wants exclusive rights to the story and feels it’s her right because she calls Gotham City home. Lois asserts the story is national, and needs a more experienced journalist to cover the story. Lois schedules a meeting with Bruce Wayne (which Bruce turns into a dinner date) to probe him on the rumors that Luthor tried to acquire the deeds to a majority of Gotham when it was at its worst. Wayne is intrigued by Lois and her spirit, and her sense of right and wrong. Clark Kent arrives to interrupt Bruce and Lois’s date to get in on the story for the Daily Planet. Clark resents Bruce’s charm and magnetism, which seems to captivate Lois, and Bruce resents Clark’s interference. Lois seems delighted to be fawned over by both Clark and Bruce. Clark also uses the opportunity to ask Bruce about Batman, implying that Batman is just as much a blight on Gotham by practicing vigilante justice. Bruce questions how Superman from Clark’s hometown of Metropolis is any different from Batman, and is a vigilante himself. Vicki Vale does some investigative journalism on Lex Luthor, breaking into his Gotham City campaign office to dig into his files, placing her on the radar of Luthor’s right-hand woman, Mercy Graves. Vicki reveals that she found evidence of Luthor’s plot to own Gotham and knows it could ruin his campaign for the presidency. Mercy thinks it’s a shame Vicki won’t be able to share her story… and locks Vicki in a secret room in Luthor’s campaign office.

4.21 World's Finest - Part 2

Lex Luthor feels the walls closing in on his campaign for the presidency, with the interference from Bruce Wayne, the snooping of Vicki Vale, and the arrival of Clark Kent and Lois Lane from Metropolis to cover Gotham’s recovery efforts and Luthor’s involvement. Clark’s super-hearing can tell Vicki Vale has been kidnapped by Mercy Graves, and makes an excuse to leave Lois and Bruce’s date to rescue Vale. Meanwhile, Luthor and Mercy arrange a back-alley meeting with The Joker, who has evaded capture and been lying low since Sarah Essen’s murder, to kidnap and kill Bruce Wayne. The Joker and Harley Quinn interrupt Bruce and Lois’s date on their walk back to the Wayne Towers Hotel where Lois is staying, and the criminals gleefully kidnap them both. Lois is terrified back at the Joker’s hideout, where she and Bruce have been strapped to electric chairs. After freeing Vicki Vale, Superman races to Joker’s hideout to save Bruce and Lois from The Joker’s shock treatment trap, but Harley makes off with Lois and tries to throw her from the roof of Wayne Enterprises. Superman rescues her, of course, but his presence in Gotham at the same time as Clark Kent’s visit there, is a red flag for Bruce Wayne. Bruce’s deductive reasoning leads him to believe Clark might be Superman, and places a tracking device on Superman while thanking him for the rescue. Batman researches Superman while simultaneously tracking him, and when Superman returns for the night to Clark Kent’s hotel room at the Wayne Towers Hotel, Batman arrives to find out why Superman is really in Gotham. Clark is furious that Batman deduced his secret identity, and tries to use his X-Ray vision to determine Batman’s identity, but Batman has crafted a lead-lined cowl to protect his identity from the multi-talented Superman. Superman respects Batman’s mental prowess, and warns him about Lex Luthor’s nefarious intentions, and the threat he would pose to the nation and the world if he were to become the President of the United States. Luthor is furious that Superman has arrived to interrupt Joker and Harley’s plans, but reminds the criminals their job isn’t done. Luthor supplies Joker and Harley with a tool that will help them in their next attempt, and it happens to be Joker’s favorite color: green. The Joker and Harley Quinn can’t wait to see what Kryptonite is capable of.

4.22 World's Finest - Part 3

Lex Luthor and Joker change up their tactics. Luthor tries to appeal to Bruce Wayne as a businessman, while The Joker and Harley Quinn target Lois Lane in order to lure Superman into a Kryptonite trap. Luthor proposes that he and Wayne own Gotham together, and Wayne can lead and run Gotham once Luthor is elected to the office of President of the United States. Luthor even wonders if Wayne is interested in being on Luthor’s ticket, sure that someone with Wayne’s influence and charisma would curry public favor. Wayne isn’t interested in politics, or in owning Gotham. Gotham is for the people, not for an iron-fisted ruler. Luthor slams Gotham, calling it a festering wound on this country, seeping with evil and insanity, which needs a more stern and powerful leader. Wayne claims to be surprised that Luthor’s view is so markedly different from his campaign, which took Gotham on as a cause, heralding the need for its salvation. Luthor slyly admits that he needs to cast a certain light on things for the American public to accept Luthor in the way he needs them to. Wayne rejects Luthor’s offer of inclusion, angering Luthor and earning a warning that Luthor will not forget the day Bruce Wayne made an enemy of him. Wayne leaves, certain Luthor is right… since Wayne recorded Luthor’s real thoughts on Gotham and the American public. Superman once again raced to rescue Lois, but fell right into Joker’s Kryptonite trap. Fortunately, Batman’s tracker is still attached to Superman’s costume, and the activity on Batman’s monitor indicates Superman is active, with how quickly he zipped around the city. Batman investigates, discovering Superman severely weakened and Joker thrashing him violently and gleefully. Batman intervenes and captures Joker and Harley, freeing Lois and saving Superman. While recovering in his suite at the Wayne Towers Hotel, Superman reveals that he knows Batman is Bruce Wayne, since Superman’s super-hearing can determine unique voice patterns, effectively allowing him speech recognition. Batman is impressed to have been outsmarted by the “lesser intellect” of Superman, but they agree to protect each other’s secret identity. Batman also leaves the recording in Clark Kent’s possession, so Kent can use it to expose Lex Luthor’s true nature to the American public, and shut down his bid for the Presidency.

Milo sees Vicki Vale’s report of Gotham-born Olympic decathlon gold medalist, Anthony Lupo, returning to Gotham to present a scholarship at a Wayne Enterprises charity event, and thinks he should serve as a perfect specimen. At the charity fundraiser, Milo drugs Lupo’s drinks to trigger headaches, and then offers to supply him with a treatment to cure them. Lupo falls right into Milo’s trap, and Milo injects him with a lycanthropic version of the Man-Bat formula. During that night’s full moon, the formula activates and Lupo transforms into the Werewolf, whom Milo sets loose to terrorize Gotham and draw Batman’s attention. Batman is outmatched in battle with the Werewolf and must try to unravel how he came to be. Batman consults Dr. Kirk Langstrom for a formula that might reverse Lupo’s condition. Secretly, Elliot was already in Gotham.

Thomas Elliot remembers his history with young Bruce Wayne and the reasons he grew to resent Wayne’s supposedly charmed life. Elliot operates on Wayne and he recovers, choosing to embrace a possible romance with Catwoman, and considers finally revealing his secret identity to her. While Wayne recovers from his surgery, Nightwing faces off against the Riddler, who attempts to make an armored car heist.

Catwoman has tracked Poison Ivy to Metropolis, and plots her revenge for Poison Ivy controlling her and forcing her to steal the ransom money. Ivy uses her abilities to gain control of Superman, and makes him her primary defense against Batman and Catwoman. Elliot recalls his failed relationship with Peyton Riley.

More of Hush’s origin is revealed, including his ties to Scarecrow. Elliot, as a child, tried to gain access to his parents’ wealth, cutting the brake line on his parents’ car.
