MOTUC at WalMart

Kinda cool to see MOTU in stores (on and endcap even!), but I'm pretty sure this is just Mattel unloading all the extra figures they made because they didn't think their subscription pimping would kill the line like it did. They have cut back bigtime on how many they're making now, so I see this as more of an isolated incident. It'd be great to buy MOTUC in stores on a regular basis, but I've said that from the start of the line.

This is an interesting thing to happen, but as I posted in the other thread about it: I'm interested to hear what ToyGuru has to say now that he's been caught out lying to the community. For starters, he's repeatedly told us to act fast and buy them quickly, as once a figure is sold out, it's gone for good. And yet, that picture clearly shows that Mattel still has a few cases of Roboto and Gygor figures in their warehouse. Nice lie there ToyGuru.

The second thing is that many fans have tried to return their broken Roboto figures after they'd broken and yet, they were turned away by Mattel. Again, they can turn away customers and fans with broken toys, demanding refunds and/or replacement figures, claiming they're sold out, but they have enough in stock to sell on to Walmart. Another lie from ToyGuru

Now that they got their sub orders for 2013 and Castle Grayskull orders, I believe Mattel sees that MOTUC is on its last legs. Once 2013 is over 2014 will probably be the last year and they are just trying to clear stock that was probably too costly to keep storing in their warehouse.

I'd have no problem with mattel selling MOTUC in stores, especially at a discounted price. The problem I have is that they have spread that many lies about the line and QC is that poor on many figures, it's hard to trust them at times. Besides, the rumours flying around is that MOTUC is pretty much done for after Castle Greyskull.

It could be something that Mattel is testing. Note the locale, California where Mattel is based. I doubt other Walmarts will see these. I would like to see some comment from Toy Guru on this.

This particular Walmart is located in Moreno Valley and is (to my knowledge) the only Walmart to have received these figures. After I checked

my local Walmart to no avail, I drove 20 minutes to this one and the aisle were filled with Robotos and Gygors. It may have to do with the

fact that there is a Mattel outlet nearby.

That makes me think even more this is an isolated incident and shouldn't be expected to happen again. A few years ago, this is the kind of thing that you would hear about but not believe or ever see for yourself. I'm sure Mattel/Scott wishes no one knew other than the customers who are shopping at that store.

You may be right. The only time I recall MOTUC being sold outside Mattycollector

was at the Mattel outlet in San Bernadino a few years back where they were unloading

a stock of figures. I notice that the Riverside area tends to be the hotbed in which

these things happen. I'm actually shocked that they didn't simply throw them on the site.

I am assuming the same thing... I think if they were testing the market Roboto would not be the one figure they use with all of the QC issues...

I'll admit when I first heard about this I wanted to drive to California immediately......at this point I would offer up an Lego Friend's Set Olivia'sHouse to the great Sarlack & Crom just to see some MOTU at retail and at low low prices to boot....but alas no MOTU here, hell there's barely any restock available at the Walmart's here, there's plenty of Nerf, HotWheels and Spiderman toyz though......

I don't think I've seen a local Walmart restock anything anyone who visits these boards collects since... before October? I don't remember. It's been quite a while. I saw some of the newer Marvel Universe figures once at one store, a She Hulk and Foundations Forum Spider-man. But for all I know they could have been "returned" to that store by someone. Unfortunately the store I had as a good source for decades has become a tumbleweed store or a dumping ground for returns in recent years. I think they might've put out some sort of new assortment case of Marvel Legends Wave One and Two in the past few months, since a new blue flame Ghost Rider is on the pegs along with the masked Daken and neon Spidey as well as the usual slow sellers. But, again, it could have been returns or simply a case they had in the back for months. And they did get the assortment with Mystique, Punisher and grey Deadpool two or three times, so that's something. I also saw the newer Batman stuff made for younger kids that has the sort of neat looking Killer Croc in it at one store. I've never seen any vintage collection Star Wars figures in stores past the Evazon wave, which I only saw one each of at one store, on damaged cards with price stickers I haven't seen them use before at that Walmart, never saw the Tarkin and Nikto or Malgus waves that came before the Evazon wave, I think, none of the Batman DKR Movie Masters other than the first assortment with Batman, Bane, Alfred and the Gordon, no repaint Cap, Loki and Hawkeye Legends scale Avengers, and none of the new Batman and DC Unlimited stuff, but I don't think anyone else has, either. I was hoping a nearby Walmart would get the Action League sets with Larfleeze and the Atom with the Plastic Man hangglider, but probably not.

It is neat to see the picture of the store with the MOTUC Robotos and Gygors, but I think like others that it's probably limited to that store. It would be strange if they were testing sales based on a figure who's entire production run is defective and another figure that has probably always been a slow seller.

I also agree with the thing about toys r us being more likely to get MOTUC if it were really a beginning of seeing product at retail, since they did actually get figures packaged specificallty for them that apparently did do pretty good in stores. They could always send a Whiplash, Clawful, Fisto, Sorceress and Mekaneck to my nearby Walmart so I can buy them lol.
