So who all picked this up?

I finished watching the Best Buy version and I highly recommend it. In all honesty, I didn't notice a whole lot of "extended action" save for the bar scene at the opening (although that in itself is pretty good just to help establish some more Joe camaraderie). There may have been more and I just don't remember....However, the whole introduction and subsequent footage with Snake Eyes and Jinx fits together 100 times better then in the theatrical version. So much so that I have no idea why they decided they had to hack up that original footage in the first place. The movie is definitely more solid in the EA version.

I found myself liking the movie more now. I even gave the blowing up of London more of a pass this time around. Sitting there watching it, I found myself thinking, "Is this SO much different than the Empire blowing up Aldaran to show their power?" Not really. And at least they didn't show the systematic toppling of each individual building over the course of 45 minutes. You know, like all action movies do now.

If you bought any other version and haven't opened it yet, return it and go get the Extended Action cut. It's the better product without question .

Yeah, I've got 2 TVs set up in my living room with my Wii & DVD player hooked to one & cable, blu-ray & recorder hooked to the other & I watched both versions at the same time. There's extended fight footage in places, alternate angles on some of the fights, extra scenes (like the scene you mentioned) & most surprisingly a few scenes that are completely switched around & extended. The Jinx/SE scene is more towards the middle of the theatrical cut when they're going to get SS. On the EE version it's at the beginning & a more coherent & fleshed out scene. Quite a difference between the 2 versions.

Wow, that's pretty hard core!

I really can't believe how much better the Jinx/SE/Blind Master intro is in the EA cut. It went from a choppy, poorly edited mess that was slapped into the middle of the film, to a cool opening sequence. It even made me not mind RZA as much.

I just finished watching it for the first time. I waited for Netflix, and man.. I am sooo glad I did.

I really expected to like it, at least quite a bit more than the first one. But I haven't been so disappointed in a movie in years.

I pretty much think it was a disaster without any redeeming qualities. I honestly can't think of anything "good" about it other than the fact that they tried to actually have a more traditional look for Cobra Commander. er wait, the part where Stormy goes to the secret prison and then bails out CC was kinda good. but that's it

I think that most of the actors were fine and did the best they could possibly do with a terrible script and awful directing.. with the exception of RZA (Blind Master) and Ray Stevens (Firefly)

I mean seriously, all of the BlindMaster scenes were painful to watch. It was like they were trying to make a joke and it wasn't landing.

the script, direction, costumes, and even music were all garbage.

at times I felt like I was watching a SciFi channel or Spike TV cable movie.

- the most enjoyable scenes were with Duke and Roadblock. Huge mistake to take Duke out.

- I don't like how the Joe team ended up essentially being Roadblock, Lady Jaye, and Flint (and Flint was a complete non-entity, such a waste), with the addition of Snake Eyes and Jinx later. I am surprised at how much the team became Roadblock and the Joes.. instead of Snake Eyes and the Joes.. Snake Eyes part was much smaller than I though it would be. The Rock was fine, but they shouldn't have made Roadblock the only Joe who mattered at all and gave him 90% of the movie.

-Mouse. why? with hundreds of characters to pick from, why create a new one... and a new CRAPPY one at that. Why did he get a figure?

-Snake Eyes in his giant helmet and rubber pads looked like a little kid in a Halloween costume.

-Cobra Commander's voice.. ugh.. is that the same voice of the villain in the Saw movies? embarrassing.. but at least he takes the heat off of Christian Bale's Batman voice.

I am surprised that I actually think the first movie was MUCH better and higher quality in every regard.

if they do decide to go ahead and make part 3, they need a new director, writers, and costume designer.. or it has no chance at being good.

I'll agree with that.

So you watched it on netflix? It's on there already?

It sounds like you watched the theatrical version. I'll say again that the Snake Eyes/Jinx stuff was MUCH better in the Extended cut. Probably not enough to make you like the movie more, but it's definitely better paced.

I'm pretty sure he has Netflix DVD and watched it that way...

Brother Rhyno approves this movie!!! The Extended cut seems way less rushed, I've been watching the cartoons with my son on Netflix(streaming) for the last year, getting him hyped up about this, watched RoC a couple weeks before Retaliation came out and then some more cartoons and then Retaliation, and some more, lol.. and now that it's out on DVD, he still loves both, the cartoon and the movies, he understands that there are different versions and different "stories".. I guess he gets that from all the different Transformer cartoons and then the movies that are out there.

Anyway.. I think I can safely say that my son likes all the main 80s icons that I grew up with. Star Wars, GI Joe and Transformers(He-man too, but that was more my lil' bro's thing).

Now we're digging into the comics and the cardbacks to flesh out the history of his favorites.. this should be fun, lol... I gotta figure out a good way to catalog these cardbacks and filecards.... hmmm..

I've now notice that since Transformers: Dark Of The Moon came out on Blu-Ray and DVD releases, that many movies being release on DVD no longer have any extra features(Well, unless it's a 2 or more Disc DVD release). No directors commentary, no bloopers or deleted scenes, no nothing extra on the single disc. The same thing with the DVD verison of Retailation.

I'm assuming this is the studio's trying to push Blu-Ray's a little bit more, as Blu-Ray Players are starting to get a bit more cheaper, but still, I do think 1 Disc DVD's should at least have something a little extra, at least directors commentary or deleted scenes.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but if I do decide to buy the movie, I think I'd get the Extended Cut verison, and if I was every curious about the regular verison, sign it out of my library.

That's been true since before DOTM came out but you're right. They want you to go Blu-Ray so the special features are all cut out of DVDs. At least for big budget geek movies. Smaller movies will still give you some DVD special features. I just watched the warm bodies DVD and I was surprided by how many special features were on the disk. Not a bad movie, either.

I finally watched the movie and to me it feels less like GI JOE than the first one. I am not going to drag this out and nag on everything I did not like. Just shocked how little I even liked it to be honest.

Do you guys think it was because once again this film was loosely based on G.I. Joe Renegades? I think that was what hurt ROC...by the time the movies are released, the cartoons they're based on to make them somewhat relevant are long gone, and all you have left are two camps, the die-hards that would have preferred a straight-up classic rendition, and the Joe Blow crowd that doesn't know the difference between Heavy Duty and Roadblock and just want to be entertained.

I'll second what alot you all have said...this film is so close to being a great G.I. Joe film, it's just a little too disjointed. I'll still get it because I'm a G.I. joe fan, and there's just enough for me to love, but I'm still waiting on my G.I. Joe version of The Avengers.
