DC Direct Blackest Night Figures

does anyone ELSE notice they have capes in the shapes of hands? it also looks like superman has a handprint on his face.

makes sense since they have the Black Hand's symbol on their costumes and he was last seen at the black power battery. he is probably controlling them. i like the design cause i LOVE SPACE ZOMBIES!!!!!

just tryig to figure out how they will reverse some of them to become alive again at the end since you KNOW they will do it for MM.

i also am a little annoyed the DC seems intent on turing this lantern event into a dc universe event. i LOVE the fact that green lantern(their best books) are getting the respect they deserve .

i am annoyed since they usually screw up and mess up what is a GREAT buildup to a great story.they didnt have anything good for their obligatory once a year "event"so they co-opted what johns has been BUIDLING to for a few years now!

see dc!?!?!? if you are going to do an event that matters you should build up to it for a LONG time instead of a new one every year!!!.

Blackest Night won't involve other Earths....Earth-2 Superman (Kal-L) died on Mogo at the end of Infinite Crisis and was buried on Earth.

The lantern corps follow the seven colors of the rainbow:

Red - Rage

Orange - Greed

Yellow - Fear

Green - Willpower

Blue - Hope

Indigo - Compassion

Violet - Love

Anyway, I'm getting all these figures. DCD's yellow Sinestro was great and Green Lantern's been one of the best books of the past few years.

Right -

Yellow - fear

Violet - love

Blue - hope

Red - rage

Orange - avarice

Indigo - compassion

Green - willpower

Oops, you beat me to it.

I just hope they don't end this storyline with another overhaul of the DCU, putting things back to 'right'. That, and I hope the colors don't all merge into some kinda Rainbow Lantern.

Interesting side note to think about, if you combine all the colors, you get black. Hmm.....

Actually, you combine all colors and get white. Black is the absence of light. And it's important to list the colors in the order I used because it places the negatives on one side and the positives on the other, with green as the balance, while red and violet at the extremes are the most unstable, uncontrollable emotions. Geoff Johns really lucked out that green just happened to be at the center of the visible spectrum.

I'll pick up a couple of these. They look great I think. The more DCUC I buy the more I like adding an odd member from DC Direct to add a little diversity in there and not forgot them. They can make great figures. Wish it wasn't so far away though.

Actually the Superman that died at the hands of Superboy Prime isn't really the Earth-2 Superman that the figure is based on. The Figure depicted is from the Earth-2 that sprang into existence after Alex Luthor re-created the multiverse with the giant tuning fork thing during Infinite Crisis. Therefore the Superman from Earth-2 that the figure is modeled after is from the Earth-2 that Gog sent Pee Gee to in a recent JSA arc.

And while I've got a good grasp on the whole multiverse concept, I also understand the lantern idea. Alternate color lanterns other than yellow are a recent introduction, given the length of publication of Green Lantern stories. Black, red, blue and purple are introduced in the last few years. Blue was introduced when Ganthet broke away from the Guardians, after the Sinestro Corps series ended, which was about 18 months ago I think. Black and red are very new as well, having been introduced around the same time. I've been reading lantern stories for years now.

You seem to be pretty confused on the multiverse.

The Kal-L Superman depicted here as a Black Lantern is the golden age Superman who died in Infinite Crisis. He was hidden away in a world of paradise and survived the multiversal trunctation in the ending of COIE. He emerged and was killed by Superboy-Prime. Now he is a Black Lantern.

The new Earth-2 is irrelevant to this story. The reason they are missing their Superman hasn't been explored, but is most likely because their history is about 80% similar to the original Earth 2, so the went missing for his own reasons that are similar to why the original Earth 2 Superman went missing.

Again, I don't remember where I read this, possibly Wizard, so that's why I posted what I posted.

Acutally, I am seeing with real squinty eyes, looking at the description, they are both to be singly carded. Not box sets.

ok lets settle this...the superman that is shown as a black lantern is EARTH 2 SUPERMAN, he died at the end of infinite crisis. the reason he was in earth 1 is told inthe story. he died on earth 1 and (im sure) buried on earth 1. the black lanterns are zombies, meaning anyone dead can and will come back as a black lantern...its really not that complicated...blackest night happens on earth 1

I am so happy about these figures! To me, this is what DC Direct should have been doing all along...releasing figures based on current DC comics stories. Since DC Direct is in house and has access to the editors of the various DC books, they should know beforehand which characters will be popping up in the upcoming books. I understand that creating figures takes about a year lead time, but the comics are in the works long before they are actually on the stands. When the 52 figures came out on the same day as the last issue of 52 I was a little miffed. At the time Isis and Animal Man were dead, Supernova was actually Booster in disguise, and Batwoman was the only character that wasn't either redundant or expired. Now had those figures come out half way through the series, they would have been a great marketing tool for 52 and, there still could have been a second wave featuring the new Question, Lady Styx, Rip Hunter and maybe Sobek or some other important players in the 52 storyline.

When Countdown was announced, I knew right away that Mary Marvel, Jimmy Olsen, Eclipso, Trickster, Pied Piper and the Atom were going to be key players. Why didn't DC Direct immediately make figures of those characters? Granted, given the way Countdown turned out (a piece o' crap), it's probably better that DC Direct stayed away from that particular series. However, I still would have loved to have seen a Jean Loring Eclipso, a Black Mary, Trickster and Piper.

So, the fact that there will be Blackest Night figs and we are seeing some of the prototypes before the book has even hit the stands makes me hopeful that DC Direct is working more closely with the editorial staff to bring out timely figures. This makes me hopeful for a strong future for DCD.

I'm not trying to argue so I don't feel the need to settle anything. I'm just expressing my point. If I'm wrong, so be it. I know what the Black Lanterns are but I was just talking.

Regardless of the nature of the character, I do think they're incredible looking figures. However I always think that when I first see the preview pictures. However when I see them on the shelf I'm disappointed because of the lack of articulation and something just doesn't translate from 2-up to production figure.
