  1. Wow. You've got a good number of posts under your belt to really kamikaze your account like this.
  2. Comic book awards are truly one of the most MEANINGLESS accomplishments anywhere. You ever notice how when the Academy Award nominations roll around, a good chunk of them are for movies that no one has ever heard of let alone seen? It's a lot worse in comic books. A LOT WORSE! Consider that successful comics that people have heard about such as Suerman, Batman, X-Men, sell only in the TENS of thousands. These are probably the most well-known comic book characters out there and that's all they can manage to sell... and rarely does the Best Comic Book of the Year award go to Superman. What can be said of these stale old Milestone books? Hardware, at fifty issues, was the longest lasting title running from '93 to about '97. That alone is hardly indicative of a successful run. One must also remember that comics don't "turn bad" and get cancelled in a single issue. Most comics tend to die slow cancerous deaths. Factor in DC's notorious stubbornness to abort bad ideas, most likely magnified by their unwillingness to axe their great experiment with minority characters, and you can probably whittle Milestone's run to about a year and a half of decent issues. I was going to look up the sales on these books, but I stopped caring. My point was made. This means nothing. As I said earlier, DC is infamous for not letting go of a bad idea. Steel is due for another revival any day now. Throw into the mix DC's regularly recurring desire to create more minority super-heroes and there you have the reason why they're digging up these graves and trying to resurrect the corpses of Milestone. This will most likely go nowhere. Even if the characters linger around haunting the place for a year or so, eventually they will go away again. Then in five or ten years, DC will dig 'em up all over again. I'm sure that DC was avalanched with tons of letters from that Million Man March that is the Milestone Fan Club, but the truth is probably closer to what I said above. DC is looking to add a few minorities to its roster of characters. Characters already in existence, despite being uninspired failures, are a safer bet than creating completely new characters. After all, as sad as it is, Milestone might actually have a fan base (All of two people probably!) There's also the issue of maintaining an active copyright. If a company allows its characters to remain dormant of a certain period of time, that company loses that character's copyright. Often, a company will throw together an appearance for one of their characters just to keep the copyright viable. Despite being the biggest losers, Milestone does represent a property for DC and DC is as notorious for holding onto copyrights as they are for holding onto bad ideas and keeping them alive. In short, Milestone was a flop and it deserved it.
  3. GI Joe: This was the line of the year. Not only was this the line that I bought the most figures from, but I also found myself buying vehicles which I almost never do anymore. Most of the vehicles like the VAMP, the Conquest, the FANG, were spectacular. The figures mostly ranged from the acceptable to out right home runs like Resolute Trooper and the Para Viper. Movie merchandise might cause me to slow down on this line this year, but 2008 was a great one for GI Joe. DC Universe Classics: This should have been the toy line of the year but riddled with enormous problems regarding its distribution and quality made this line almost an impossibility to enjoy. It's a testimony to the amazing sculpts and character selection that I haven't walked away from this line altogether. This is easily the most mishandled line since Mattel's go-around with Masters of the Universe earlier this decade. If its problems are corrected, then this could be the line of 2009. Marvel Legends: After a passionate romance with this line following the Giant Man wave, interest has fizzled pretty fast. Character selection now that most of the Big Guns have been done has become either hit or miss. I love Union Jack but I care very little for Silver Savage, Barbarian Hulk and others. There was just too much nose-holding involved to collects all the BAF pieces in a wave. Target's incredible 15.00 price tag became the final nail. After Union Jack, I walked away altogether. I look forward to replacing Marvel Legends with the 3 3/4 line in 2009. Star Wars: This was another line I walked away from. I might continue to pick up the odd character here and there but the overwhelming number of Darth Vaders, Anakins, and Obi Wans really make not miss this line much at all. I feel like I own all the characters that I need from this franchise. This one will be on probation for 2009. Justice League Unlimited: To my continuing surprise ...and I say this as a fan and a collector... this line survives for another year. Becoming a Target exclusive seems to have helped the availability of these figures. In fact, they don't seem to be going anywhere! Captain Atom and Galatea 3 packs seem to be rotting on the pegs. Admittedly they are very underwhelming figures, but it does seem at times as if NO ONE is buying this line. Still, the fantastic character selection remains this line's greatest attribute. This is the first line to offer us Blue Devil, Vigilante, Light Ray and others. Yeah. We have to sift through tons of Batmen and Supermen, but there are Shadow Thieves and Atomic Skulls at the end of the rainbow. I'll be with this one another year. Star Trek: To be honest, with only a handful of releases through out the year, I kept forgetting this line was still active. DC Direct: I finally walked away from this one. Quality control has always been spotty with DCD, but it was easily their character selection which turned me away. A couple of offerings during the year like Green Lantern and Shazam were exceptional but typically there was way too much mining of Elseworlds, Superman/Batman, and everything Alex Ross to really keep my interest. This was also another line where its increased price tag... at least at my LCS... made it easy to say "Good bye." With Mattel putting out a superior product and a more uniform line, I might never look back at DCD again.
  4. To be fair here, Wheeljack didn't say that he didn't believe in time travel. He just didn't believe the John Titor case.
  5. It's okay if these people aren't around anymore, you still have me.
  6. I found the following here: http://www.johntitor.com/ Be forewarned! The following account details future events as related by a time traveller from the year 2036. THE TIME TRAVEL TALE OF JOHN TITOR Although there is debate over the exact date it started, on November 02, 2000, a person calling themselves Timetravel_0, and later John Titor, started posting on a public forum that he was a time traveler from the year 2036. One of the first things he did was post pictures of his time machine and its operations manual. As the weeks went by, more and more people began questioning him about why he was here, the physics of time travel and his thoughts about our time. He also posted on other forums including the now non-existent Art Bell site. In his posts John Titor entertained, angered, frightened and even belittled those who engaged him in conversation. On March 21, 2001, John Titor told us he would be leaving our and returning to 2036. After that, he was never heard from again. Speculation and investigation about who John Titor was and why he was online continues to this day. Although it may be easy to dismiss all this as science fiction, most people who read his posts agree that there is something very haunting about John Titor and what he said. In addition, and open to more debate, he also made a series of predictions and comments that eerily seem to be coming true. Unfortunately, I never spoke directly to John Titor but there are many out there who have and continue to wonder about their experience. As you get deeper and deeper into the story, you will find his posts, links to other sites about him, downloads and speculative information attributed to him after he left. I have taken the posts and organized them by date and subject. My editorial work is copyrighted but the unedited posts and the people who experienced it are in the public domain can be found on other sites listed inside. As you read, please try to keep two things in mind: 1. John appeared to answer nearly every question that was asked of him over the 4-month period he was online. Because of that, many people neglected to read the previous posts and asked similar or exact questions he had already answered. It may offer a glimpse of what a time traveler goes through when having the same conversation again and again. 2. These posts were written before 911, the Discovery accident and the second gulf war. Many people believe John may have known of these events and dropped clues without actually referring to them. It's also widely agreed that he made several predictions about future physics discoveries that have materialized as he stated. I have included a guest book where you may leave your comments. I will endeavor to respond to any questions you have based on my work. I hope you enjoy your journey with John Titor. Copyright 2003 Reluctant to accept this story at face value, I corroborated it against Wikipedia. Check out the following entry for a list of this visitor's predictions for the future: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Titor Here is a site with a photographic evidence of the actual time machine used by our visitor from 2036. 7. I think Professor Panarin and Parker Bros. should get together for RISK: The 2009 US Civil War Edition. I think Hawaii could be the new Australia! You know... that easy-to-hold territory where you can drop all your armies and from which you can sweep the rest of the map!
  8. The entire line was a huge flop. Everything was cancelled within a couple of years. That should say something about it. Once again though, we all have the right to like garbage. There have been quite a few really bad books that I got a kick out of too. I remain objective about it though and understand that I'm probably all alone in that Thunder Riders Fan Club. To me, they'll always be Team America though... Sigh!
  9. I know how to build a house. Unfortunately, I was given a bag of straw to build it with. Oh man... is this really all we're asking of a GI Joe film? I guess if our standards are going to be this low, it will be difficult to disappoint.
  10. Unfortunately, I have to keep coming back in here to set people straight. Got that? Good. Now sit down until I send for you.
  11. Once again... No. It can't. Every grown man in the World wears red shirts. This becomes the norm. This is reality. It is undeniable. One day, you decide to wear a blue shirt. You've become abnormal. It's your right to wear a blue shirt. You're enjoying it. You're not hurting anyone. You're not hurting yourself, but you're definitely different from the rest of the World. You've become abnormal. To say, "I'm wearing a blue shirt and that's normal" is to deny reality. Reality doesn't shift because you want it to or need it to because you want to justify your own aberrant quality. To say, "I'm wearing a blue shirt and that's normal for me." Well, you may be normal within the context of the blue-shirt wearing community of you, but within the the larger pool of the general population, no. You're not normal. That larger population is still wearing red shirts ...and they're probably giving you and your blue shirt funny looks. Hey! This isn't to say you shouldn't wear your blue shirt. You love blue. You're happy in blue. Knock yourself out. You should however maintain some perspective about yourself though. That's swell. Never said you should. You really should be more honest with yourself though. Nope. I march to the beat of my own drum myself. My profession is unique. My interests and hobbies are unconventional. Hell, I'm one of those toy-buying adults I've been talking about. I have no illusions though that these aspects of my life are normal or mainstream.
  12. Here is more on Master Legend, Ace, and the Justice Force: http://laweekly.blogs.com/joshuah_bearman/...ter-legend.html
  13. According to Russian professor Igor Panarin, the US will be shattered by a massive civil war that will splinter the US into SIX new countries. No. This isn't set to happen in a hundred years ...or even in ten! The Prof predicts this will all go down in 2009! I don't know how the ape uprising fits into this but can the Eugenics Wars be far behind? Read more about it here: http://www.usnews.com/blogs/capital-commer...l-break-up.html Check out the new map of the US here: http://www.collegeotr.com/college_otr/russ...w_america_17413 Who's side will you be on in '09?
  14. Actually, I went out of my way NOT to reference your case in this thread. As one of my above posts will testify, I considered your particular situation to be fair game within this thread ONLY AFTER you re-injected it into the discussion. In addition, I'll re-affirm that I have no interest or stake in your situation beyond a theoretical point. If your perfectly satisfied living as an adult where your father with his unique perspectives on banking, has a good deal of influence over your decisions then enjoy yourself. I doubt that I am alone however in regarding this as an unfavorable situation. The difference between me and most though is that I will be honest and tell you so.
  15. You keep hiding from the point here. It's not my definition of normal. That definition has been established by the majority. Like it or not, this isn't subjective. Once again, reality isn't subjective. If you choose to believe that it is, then you're living outside of it. The majority of the adult men in this world do not buy dolls. This isn't opinion. It's fact. A doll buying man would be in the minority. He would be abnormal. He might claim to be normal but he would be trying to contradict what is mathematically verifiable. Nope. This is a crock. It's the sort of nice-sounding line held by people who can't or won't live according to normal standards and so justify themselves by claiming there are no normal standards. Ha! Now that IS subjective.
