Fast and the Furious 7 and the franchise as a whole

I saw this the other day and it was pretty good. As an action flick, I think it works really well. Some really good stunts with parachuting cars, buses dangling over cliffs, cars jumping between (through) buildings, and the Rock removing his cast for his broken arm in a way that only the Rock could. There's also plenty of good hand-to-hand combat too. If you're someone who is going to think through the physics of every car stunt and wonder how someone can walk away from a head-on collision at 100 mph, then you should stay home. Some of it gets pretty far out. But that's OK. The movie entertains.

The tribute to Paul Walker at the end was very well done and they made it fit into the story line very naturally. It played off of events they were setting up for the character in previous movies so it did not feel forced at all. They handled Walker's death the best way possible.

As a whole I feel this franchise was worth watching. I've seen them all. The first one is OK and obviously necessary to get introduced to (almost) everybody. You have to muddle through the second and third. They both suck but do introduce some important supporting characters. The fourth is where it picks up and the franchise really starts to build it's own mythos. I'd say 4-7 are all worth watching.

That said, I definitely feel 7 should be the last one. Movies with this many sequels usually start to putter out. This one would be ending on a high note. The story line came to a satisfying end. Even with bad guy Jason Statem going to prison, vowing to break out conveniently for another box office draw, I think the producers really need to resist that urge. Be happy with the work you've done and call it a franchise.

Or course, I'm reading that this movie had like the fourth best opening weekend of all time, so since it's Hollywood, that, unfortunately, will probably not happen.

yes, 2 and 3 were horrible! all the others were pretty good though. i havent had the chance to check #7 out yet, but i do hope they call it quits after this. it's always best to stop while you're on top.
