  1. This would be great news if they disappeared. They're over-priced and underwhelming. Even their best products are disappointing (except for the snowglobes they produced 98-2000. One of their greatest pieces, the 1/4 scale Batman Bust was seriously flawed.
  2. Take a look at the pictures up a few posts. These $100 DCD figures fit right in with the Marvel Legends Icons, which had a retail price of $20. And, in most cases, the ML Icons STILL look superior. But, you're right, most Mattel and Hasbro stuff looks horrible. You can now spend over $100 to complete one series of Mattel or hasbro figures, and have nothing to be proud of: sloppy paint jobs, horrible sculpts. When Hasbro took over the Marvel License, the first thing they did was ruin the Marvel Legends line. They had no clue of the awesome history; just the Hasbroesque type sculpting we would come to know and loathe. They ruined the Build-A-Figure concept, by making the B-a-F's the same size as the regular figures, they raised prices, and lowered quality. The ML Icons had an immediate $5 price increase, although, a better package, and they removed the free comic. But, the whole point here is, DCD's 13" or 1/6 scale figures ultimately do not provide the quality of the price tag they heaped on. Just three years ago, I was told this line could go on forever; as long as it generated money. I told them the 13" figures were near it's end. Seems forever wasn't that long, and the end lasted a few figures longer than i would have guessed.
  3. And that's my point. Next to $20 figures, they look great. Next to $50-200 figures, they look like $20 figures.
  4. They've actually improved, slightly. At least, from a "from the beginning" standpoint. When I received the Batman Begins figure I was so shocked at how pathetic it was. When extreme detail and super articulation was taking over, this thing came hobbling in. I took three 12" figures and asked people who knew nothing of figures, pricing or what to look at when buying, to pick out which figure they thought would have the highest retail price tag. It was never picked, despite having a price tag over a $20 habsro Star Wars figure, and one other; I'm thinking a SideShow figure, which at the time had a retail price of $35-45. Meanwhile, this had a retail price of $100! My reviews were so critical, and my letters to DCD were so angry, that apparently, DCD realized they made a huge mistake. By the time Green Lantern came out, the accessories had been minimized, the face sculpt was vastly improved, no COA was added, and the price dropped $20. Still, not enough to warrant the excessive $80 tag. But, once again, I was so deep into the pre-orders. A few sculpts became almost good. But, the lack of imaginative accessories has all but killed the series, when considering the massive price tag. Now, compared to say Hot Toys or Medicom, these were more than half the price, and a seemingly cheap alternative. Which I am speculating is why it lasted over 30 figures. But, apparently people ended up getting tired of spending $80-100 on piss poor quality, and the same bodies with different heads, because DCD eventually repeated the mainstays several times, rather than creating a few great needed characters. I'm still hoping for a great Mr. Freeze. But, there have been a few noticeable improvements. But not enough for me to recommend the series. Although, at $35, they might be awesome. For $60-125, they're just not that great.
  5. I ordered the very first figure in this series, "Batman Begins", then the Superman figure came out several months later. These were sold for $100 a piece. The sad thing about this entire line is, each figure body was exactly the same: Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, all the way until the first female figure. The only difference is the head, costume and accessories. Unfortunately for me, I had pre-ordered this line too deep to get out before it was too late.
  6. I for one have never been a fan of these over-priced, under whelming, typical sloppy and cheap pushouts from DCD. However, I was hoping for a couple more, to finish my "in too deep to stop" collection. In particular, I was hoping for a Mr. Freeze 1/6 scale figure. But, I guess it's ok, because it would probably have been horrific.
  7. I have collected the dreadful 13" line from the very beginning. I have most, not all. About 30. Thankfully, DCD has changed some of the bodies, and not all figures use the same body. @purpbananna# We've had plenty of Superman and Batman (Did i just say we have had plenty of Batman? Yikes). But, we have not had the one figure we must have! Mr. Freeze. When will this figure be enlarged to the 1:6 scale? And, will DCD PLEASE do it justice, making it almost worth the excessive price? Thanks, Tim.
  8. Oh, no. Toy Biz was making far more than 40-50 cents. They were selling them for about $5, while TRU was selling them for $7, which surprised me, because I had believed the mark-up was about 50% on shelf price. Now, keep in mind, they hire chinese kids to paint and assemble the figures, at less than $1 a day; $2 if they're lucky. Manufacturer's hate talking cost of production, because the truth of the matter is it costs pennies to manufacture things. (Nike sells shoes for $200 a pair, that cost 6 cents to make). Hasbro has to pay licensing fees. Big whoop. $10,000 a line? Ok, so now it costs hasbro a dime to make them? $1 if they were decent people? And they raise prices because its Jan? Hell, prices have already been raised twice this year, and the quality still sux. I have almost every TB ML made. Im missing series 3 unmasked wolverine, because there were so few made. But, Im no idiot. im not paying $300 for a $8 toy that cost less than a buck to make. Well, unless i can be guaranteed to make a nice profit myself. But, HML? I think I have a total of 2. MAYBE 3. They are horrible. And, to the poster who said we are talking out both sides of our mouths; you're right, almost. We want to pay as little as possible, and we want to sell them for as much as possible. companies are no different. My complaint with the companies, however, is not that they want to make a fair and honest living, minimizing expenses and maximizing profits. My complaint is, they're willing to hurt people in the process, they are willing to do shoddy work, and expect people to pay even more. They also cut out accessories, and decent paint jobs, they also have shrunk figures. One needs the hubble telescope today to see figures. Here's an off-topic example. How many people know that you cant buy a half gallon of ice-cream very much any more? Maybe now that they are 1.5 quarts people noticed. But, many people never noticed when Breyers dropped it to 1.75 quarts 10 years ago, and then the rest followed suit? Did the prices go down? Nope. It's now $6 for the ice-cream. There has to come a point when we say, "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!" and when Hasbro upped the price on their ugly, undesirable ML figures, I said No more! And with the exception of a couple, I have not bought many Hasbro figures since.
  9. You can also try onlineauction.com and so many other sites that are just so much better for the seller and buyer. Please help by boycotting ebay. Thanks, Tim www.myspace.com/boycottebay
  10. After having purchased the Spider-Man Chess set, I know precisely what it is about it that bothers you. It's that Sota just does not have a clue. They had a $500 price tag on the dern thing, and they shipped it with flimsy styrofoam. The company I purchased it from said they had had nothing but trouble with those things. Anyway, the set arrived, broken in more pieces than I dare to count. I didn't even remove it from the box. So, when it comes to SOTA products, I wouldn't purchase them unless it was in hand and opened for inspection. @grumpy@
  11. @Jmacq1 Mostly, the limitations are Hasbro's limited imagination, over-pricing, and inability to create a decent figure. I considered getting some of the 12 inch figures, but, they were truly uninspiring (imo) and offered nothing worth collecting. So, that leaves me with either collecting the IJ line elsewhere, or, not at all. I'll end up with a small cross selection of a few higher end items, and that will be it. Did Hasbro make a cool playset, that could be used for a display and to recreate various scenes? If they did, I must have missed it. I saw some awesome displays at Comic Con, but, nothing so inspiring on shelves. Hasbro has to forget about targetting figures to kids. Kids buy video games, sometimes action figures, but, its the adult collector who buys the vast majority of figures. Not to mention, IJ isn't really targetted to kids to start with. Once they figure this out, they can retool their entire marketing and restructure it to make things better. But, until then, we'll be faced with low quality, over-priced figures, that barely resemble the actors. But, if Hasbro ever woke up, they'd discover there's a whole new world out there. Example: Real Action Hero figures are selling for $150+ and quite successfully. So, why is Hasbro failing at $20? Sure there's more to it than price. Medicom items are limited. They are typically screen accurate. That requires more money. But, am I wrong to say if Hasbro put some real time and effort in, they could make some inspiring figures at half or a third the cost of the higher end items? Example: Toy Biz did some medium quality figures with their Marvel Studio line and was relatively successful. Ie, Hasbro could do well IF they charged a reasonable price for decent quality items. I can see an Indiana Jones line working. But, like I said, they have to use a bit of imagination. Give us a reason to buy. Instead, they limit themselves to boring figures, with no reason to buy. Once again, here's a great example: Ive seen people asking for a Jone' side car motorcycle. Where's that at? Well, Hasbro didn't make it. It would have been a huge hit. At least that's how I see it.
  12. @Indianajones101 When it was first announced Hasbro would be taking over the Marvel line, I cringed. I knew how lousy they did with the Batman and DC lines, and that they would ultimately destroy the entire Marvel line. Then I went to Comic Con 06, and like everyone, was completely impressed by the Marvel Legends line. Then, reality hit. The reality I had expected initially. Piss-poor figures at a higher rate. Hasbro pretends to listen to the collectors. But they don't. If they did, they would implement the suggestions we have made since they destroyed, err, took over the Marvel license. BH (Before Hasbro) I purchased every Marvel Legends figure, with exception of series 3 Unmasked Wolverine. ATB (After Toy Biz) I purchased the entire first wave of ML, to make my review, and then I returned each and every one of the pitiful pieces of plastic. I must thank Hasbro for one thing, however, and that is the vast amounts of money they are saving me, by insisting on releasing some of the worst figures known to man. Low quality, high pricing all have left me in a no buy mood for several years.
  13. Thanks. I was wondering what happened. I can't imagine why the delay, tho, since it's just the head and costumes that are new. @loll@ Maybe they had to start all over, because of lead in the paint. @grumpy@ It's not like we're gonna be chowin down on these things. @loll@ @loll@ Anyway, thanks for the update. It was solicited to be released on 9/19/07 but was moved to 10/24/07. I'll try and get the DCD release dates updated this weekend for you guys.
  14. not THAT i am buying into the "too violent" line; but, you do propose an awesome suggestion; one that i wondered. Then again, I'm not a huge Lobo fan, but, I do think fans deserve the sculpt if they want. And, they shouldnt have to be forced into a worse than Mattel sculpt at a hugher rate, from DC Direct.
  15. Anyone hear anything on the Nightwing head for the 13" line? Ive heard nothing on this, except it was to be released last month. Thanks.
