So, wait... the Joe team is 'dead'? What is this, the MIB?

I can understand the need for secrecy, but the whole 'you no longer exist' angle is silly. I mean, look at a show like 'The Unit' - they just deny that they're special forces while they go to work at their pretend base with their pretend jobs... sound familiar? It's more human and understandable than a person who has to give up their whole existence to 'defend the constitution'.

You know what made the tail end of Devils Due great? Cobra became terrorists. Not super villians or scheming madmen... they used terror as their weapon. Cobra Commander snuck into the White House in the way the Crimson Guard SHOULD have been doing all along. They targeted the Joe's families - they kidnapped Duke's father. How do you combat a soldier who will give his life in the defense of his country and his family? You make it not only his sacrifice... that if he challenges Cobra, his mother, his father, his sisters and brothers will suffer for it. That's terror.

To know that the Joes more or less have nothing to lose... I don't know. Takes the sting away from any suspense the series could build up on a personal basis for these characters.

This is a late post I know, but I didn't get the chance to read this issue until a day or two ago and I'm with you. It seems that by making the Joes into a black ops, non-existant agency like the MIB, we're going to lose a lot of the power of the other series. Also, I'm not exactly sure how I feel about Larry Hama coming back to G.I.Joe. I mean, yeah we have him to thank for all of the Joes, but still, his record is less than sparkling. In the '90's he bombarded us with ninjas. Ninja this and ninja that, but I read those issues now and have a hard time finishing them. The last 10 or so issues managed to get back to the original source material, at least in my opinion, but I still fear a repeat of this. I loved Blaylock's take, but it wasn't until I read Casey's stuff that I realized how much more the Joes had to offer. I'm willing to give the series a chance because I love the Joes, but if Hama starts up with the stuff he was writing in the early 90's I'm going to be pissed.

If i may I think there doing it because of the movie. I'v read that in the movie there not really joes per say but kinda black ops as well. Which is a let down to me I dont know if things have changed or if anyone knows something different. From what i'v read here and there because of the war/wars we have going on thats why.

So im thinkin maybe the comic will lead into the movie or something like that. Thats just my view

Welcome to the forums, Chris - you should stick around, we could always use new folk! : )

Just to clarify, I encourage everyone to at least read the book. I don't think it will be bad, especially the titles Hama isn't writing personally. I know a ton of people resent the 'reboot' for the series, but I think the Marvel run wrapped up it's story nicely at the time, and the Devils Due people did a nice job adding to it. But they ended it... it's time for a new story.

Thanks for the warm welcome Tom. I should have joined up a long time ago.

I'm very excited about the other 2 series, I guess I just have really high expectations for them. Then again, when DDP first announced they're version back in 2001 I was unsure of it too. You know what? Never mind, I'm gonna keep my feelings on each series to myself until I've had a chance to read the first issues of each one. Hama's been writing the insert books for the comic packs and most of them are good, so we just need to wait and see.
