In case you haven't realized from past threads, I'm not about bashing casing choices before I've seen the final product (except if we're talking New Fantastic Four)

This is the 3rd guy in 10 years that's played Deadshot (don't forget Smallville) and they've never covered his face in those incarnations either. Plus, it's Deadshot. He's fine if he's handled right, but is he anyone's favorite character? To me this is a guy you can play a little fast and loose with.

And I Am Legend showed me that Smith can be a good actor. That's all I know.

I'm excited for Robbie to play Harley, but the first live-action Harley Quinn was already played by Mia Sara on the short-lived Birds of Prey television series. She was a main cast member for the entire one season that the show ran. Just saying.

And then there's Wild Wild West and After Earth.

Haven't seen either of them. Maybe those bombed. Lots of movies bomb. Lots of good actors have been in movies that bomb. I'm not necessarily trying to label Smith as a good actor, I know the type of character he's played in the past, I'm just saying I've seen evidence that he can have a decent acting range if given a good story. As a matter of fact, when it comes to movies, I personally feel that everything first hinges on a good story. After that, I feel you can (sometimes) get away with cheesy special effects or even cheesy acting. That's why I don't tend to get too worked up over casting choices.

He was good in "7 Pounds" I thought...."MIB" was a classic....but I think what people worry about is when an A or B list actor can take over an movie franchise like the "Rock" did in GI Joe 2 when the movie is supposed to be about an ensemble.....I know Tony Stark seems to be centerpiece for the Avengers set but imop they gave the others some time as well so he didn't overpower the movie too much.....

You beat me to it, feat. I read that interview, and I thought to myself, "Um...what? Why would he need to gain weight to play the Joker?" Jared Leto is already what my dad would have called a "bread-haint" (i.e. a very skinny person) (lol) Either that's a very cruel comment about his physicality, or they're planning something off-the-wall again.

Remember, he lost a ton of weight for Dallas Buyers Club. From the article it seems like he's not only putting on weight, but working out and buffing up for the roll. When you work out like actors do for roles, you eat a ton because you're working out sometimes 6 hours or more a day.

This movie is either going to be really good or really bad. It's really hard for a director and writer to pull off movies with casts this large. They have cast so many actors for so many different roles that I think some characters are going to get lost in the process. Obviously Will Smith is the big star here and likely to get a majority of the screen time. Leto's Joker is also a big selling point. A lot of people are interested in seeing what he does and comparing his work to Ledgers (which is unfair, but that's how the world is). Not to mention that I also know a lot of people are curious about how Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn is going to be portrayed.

Not really. I've found it's more a case of subject matter than cast size. It's hard to believe, but in this day and age some people still don't "get" superhero movies. It's not even a matter of skill. I've seen top-drawer A-List directors phone in crap superhero movies just because they don't get the subject material or couldn't be bothered to take it seriously.
