Toy Guru is seriously losing it!

Recommended Posts

Honestly, the thread in question didn't sound as if Scott was losing it. He was just doing his normal PR (damage control) talk. I forgot how some ppl are very "anti-Scott" here. I am not defending as I was expecting to read some "popcorn worthy" comment from Toy Guru. I was let down because of this overly exaggerated TNI thread..

Thats really not losing it. I am even amazed how cool he is with all the negativity around him. Funny thing i noticed just as last year that a lot of forum members who barly post anything show up to talk things down. Even on matty suddenly 10guys with barely 20-30posts show up and talk trash. The thing is why just at that moment when the subs are on sale?

Yeah, I don't see how Neitlich is losing it there. Just seems like he's addressing the negative feedback with the subs. One thing though is his reasons for not revealing the full lineup. He's not revealing them because doing so would only hurt the brand. If people knew the entire lineup they would be forced to make an informed decision towards the sub. By only revealing the first 5 months you're still taking a chance with that uncertainty.

I personally think the sub will go through as usual. However, If the line ends soon, it's not because of low sub sales... it's because Matty is ready to phase it out for some unknown logistical reason. They will of course make it look like it was our fault for not buying enough subs though. In the end, It's not the fans fault... we have spent years expressing our love for this line and there are tons of people saying, "Mattel, please take my money" all the time. I think 2014 and a little bit of 2015 will be focused on getting all the vintage figures made and of course the random Neitlich demanded figures that nobody wants... then that's a wrap.

Here is the thread that the op is talking about: http://forums.mattyc...65/m/2291067338

That is the follow-up thread.

There was one before it (that got scrubbed) where he was calling posters names.

I honestly not sure what to believe because there have been ppl who really hate Scott and would nitpicks or exaggerates whatever he says. If Scott indeed said insulting comments to other posters, he can lose his job - a few months back, a top level Microsoft employee lost his job over insulting tweets to people questioning the Xbox1's DRM.

If Scott is a jerk, I would think he would be smart enough to not lose his **** over toys unless he doesn't care about his job. I would also think someone would take screenshots and post it here or the He-man.org forum.

Snooker, you are a regular at the Matty forum. Do you remember the thread before I linked of TG losing it? Please be honest.

I've also been banned from matty and just about all other toy forums... I'm sure this one will ban me soon enough too, but until then, can someone cut and paste the example of Neitlich "losing it"? I need a good laugh today. ;)

I don't know if one exists since the op claimed that the comments were deleted and the URL I linked doesn't show Scott losing it

I havent seen anything and i am there a lot but not every minute, lol. I doubt it because again, why now? It makes no sense. The subs are on sale and he needs to deliver. Think of toyguru what you want but i dont see him insulting people. Corporate lies come with the buisness and other companies arent better with that. He is 4? 5? Years in and knows what comes ahead after sdcc. So why should he snap now?

Even with the bias fans, it would be bad PR on Scott's part. With Microsft, there were "true fans" who backed the executive who made the rude tweets to gamers.

Smaller companies can get away giving out rude comments because they are small, not well known, and new. The guy from Shocker Toys, Jerry from SOTA, and Paul Trowe from Replay games (the guy who is in charged of the new Leisure Suit Larry remakes) are bad PR spokesperson. I don't know what happened to the Shocker Toys guy, but both Jerry (near the end of Sota) and Paul Trowe were told by their lawyers to shut it after making bold comments, attacking other companies with their remarks, and other claims (Jerry claimed to be working on a Ninjas vs Pirates line when he was at Sota, but such a claim was clarified as him thinking out loudly by other people in the team later on).

Speaking of outrageous claims, it makes sense for Scott, as a PR person, not to reveal everything that is happening in the inside by figures that haven't been revealed yet. Fans would be pissed if he revealed something that will come out at the end of next year like say a sought off MOTU character and it ends up being cancelled.

While I think Scott could be a bit more professional in his choice of words (avoid using any words that would category or divide fans), I think he is doing a good job with PR and damage control. He is not saying too much to the point of making himself sound like an arrogant individual, but is answering questions that needs answers.

I agree. The guy has been Mattel's PR guy for a while now, it would be extremely crass on his part to snap at this point. From the OP's initial post, I can see TG saying something to the likes of "[insert poster's screen name here], the meter isn't used as a scare tactic to get more subs. while it would be nice to sub, you are free to be a 'cherry picker'." with each response. While Toy Guru might have said something more PR than what I imagined him writing, I can imagine people taking something he wrote and take it negatively.

If the line dies as an incomplete collection, and I'm sure it will because I believe it's what Mattel wants at this point... I kinda hope the 4H continue to sculpt any remaining MOTU figures and sell them under different brands and aliases. Mattel will probably bombard them with legal threats, but I hope it's something the 4H would consider.

Mattel is basically using the 4hm for most of their superhero toyline. I doubt they would do a BOOTLEG line to piss off Mattel. The only thing I can think of the 4hm do would to do another statue line that are basically MOTU figures with all the articulation taken out

They did this once with the 200x line.

Ultimately, I'd rather see the remaining figures get made... even if it's just one a month, sub or no sub. But Mattel is too fixated on the sub and selling in bulk. They really don't give a rats ass about fans incomplete collections. I'd like to see the 4H make them without Mattel, Mattel and TG can go to hell. My only concern is the legality of it all... the question is could they do it without getting sued by greedy Mattel.
