IDW Relaunches G.I. Joe Comic Series With Karen Traviss At The Lead

I really want to like this and will pick it up, but I'm sick of IDW (and every other comic company) relaunching books once a year. I do like Karen Traviss' previous work on the Gears of War universe (she wrote the books, most of the comics and the GoW 3 game) as well as the Staw Wars Commando stuff.

Well if Karen is as good as christy marx was for GI JOE and Jem and the Holograms then it would be a great choice.

By the way that cover made me think of GI Joe the Samurai Jack art style...

This gimmick is done to pander to retailers who want more #1 issues. While it's certainly not limited to GI Joe, you can expect GI Joe to keep doing it and doing it often. They need that publicity of a new #1 because they're not as popular as a Marvel or DC super hero. Since it came to IDW, they've renumbered GI Joe 5 times. I don't think the last run even went one year!

I don't mess with all of that. I just buy Hama's "A Real American Hero" and keep it simple. It's in the 200's now. I think IDW gives this book an immunity pass because it doesn't want to play numbering games with Hama's book for fear of making him mad. They need to keep him on and write for the nostalgia geeks....like me :)
