Playmates Beams Up Star Trek License In 2009

Wow, I was hoping Diamond Select would have the chance to get to redo some more ships, like the Enterprise B and C and all the baddies, but maybe this means Playmates will re-release them instead. Either way, I'm with Wheeljack - bring on the ships!

I won't lie, I'm very excited about these new toys from Playmates. I have just about everything Art Asylum and DST have put out, and I have boxes full of Playmates stuff, and every now and then I get real nostalgic for the Playmates stuff. Sure, it wasn't always accurate and the articulation was a little weird, but I love 'em all the same.

The possibility of 3 3/4" figures just makes them that much better. I love that scale for GI Joe, Star Wars, and Indiana Jones, so the plans for smaller figures with a bridge and transporter playset is just awesome.

I love TOS because I grew up with the reruns as a kid, so I was very hesitant about a bunch of young punks coming in and trying to fill the roles of the original cast. So far JJ Abrams has been a genius with getting me hyped about the new version of things, because as a huge TOS fan I'm now really excited about the new movie.

Supposedly the major marketing campaign is going to start in November, so I guess we'll all see if it's been worth the wait then....

DST still holds the license for Star Trek and is still planning on making more figures from all the shows and movie we love. Playmates only has the new movie license and will be making stuff for that movie only.

If done riht these figures could be sold like the Star Wars figures and be in stores for years

I really would to see them in 3 3/4 inch figures

I swear I can hear Thin Lizzy playing from the Playmates Headquarters all the way over here in CT!

(The Boys are Back in Town)

Dude you are making me so homesick for Norwalk

Just don't forget about the snow, or that fact that I-95 is still a nightmare in that area.

Seriously, though, I guess since you left, things have changed dramatically, at least in regards to toys. Given the size of the state versus the population, there are alot more stores that are accessible than alot of other places. In a 20-mile radius, there must be some 10-15 Walmarts, 8-10 Targets and at least 4 Toys R Us. I generally frequent the ones that fall en route to work or somewhere else I am going, but if you were to take a day and tour them all, you could conceivably hit them all, and find anywhere from nothing to everything you want (say, if you were an army builder). Add to that, if you go to outlying stores, ones that do NOT have that per capita, you are likely to find what you are looking for in bulk. I once went to Old Saybrook for Joes and walked out with like 15 figs, all army buiders, but that was when the rest of the stores were short or out of stock completely.

So yeah, I feel sorry for those in larger areas with less population density - people who have to drive some 40 miles to get to ONE store and such. But I guess it means I generally do not have to online my purchases, which means I spend a little more in gas, and often leave empty handed. There's always pros and cons.

Oh yeah, the cost of living (rent OR mortgage) is also high. Even moreso in the Fairfield County area. So you might have it better where you are in that respect.

Well, there's always room! I might not choose that particular city for a return (too big and busy!). But if you have the scratch, the route 7 towns are a nice place to be. Ridgefield, Weston, etc. If not, then I would say Shelton and Huntington would be close, but more affordable. Thenb there's the center of the state, where I am, where the store count seems to be highest. I'd take the snow over all the hurricanes and stuff you get down there anytime! Plus you get Mass and NY to play in too.

OK, so maybe Shelton would not be the place to go either... I would feel uncomfortable running into an ex. (a pro at burning bridges, am I) Still, there's other areas, like Middletown and Cromwell that keep you out of the traffic, but still give you access to a ton of stores. I personally would like to live (when I strike oil or gold) in Old Greenwich, where you can go to actually test drive a Lotus Esprit or a Ferrari, but I don't think that will happen if I keep buying toys! I used to do deliveries/installation/instruction of medical equipment all over the state, and that is my fave area. Anywhere on 395 would be a close second, but it's a haul to even get groceries there, so I guess I am exactly where I need to be. No dangerous animals, either ('gators, snakes, ex-GFs and such) so I can't complain.

Well, there you go then! That's the way to think! Plus in Shelton, you have access to the Bridgeport/Milford as well as the Waterbury areas. And follow route 34 out to Danbury/White Plains for that area too, if you want a fun drive. I always liked (but could not see myself in) the Derby hill area, across the river, real peaceful looking, but there's only one main road. Oh, and you get Trumbull, too, which now has it's own mall (in your time?) and brand spankin' new Target.

Given the market, it would be easier to find then sell now. But I would not give up on the idea were I you. My brother was thinking about moving to FL a few years ago, but he had a kid and had to put it off. I think that things happen for a reason, and given that, if you find an opportunity to 'come home', by all means, look at it seriously. Or watch the Discovery Channel 'How the World Ends' specials, and get your ass out of the area!!!

BTW, it is currently 40 and we are looking at a low of 33 tonight.

Sure rub it in

Or watch the Discovery Channel 'How the World Ends' specials, and get your ass out of the area!!!

I watch those same specials too

If I decided to stay I would be safer

The New York area looks like it will go first

I say move to Montana. Anyways, is there a playset to be made for these figures? Oh I am stoked about that.

Playmates did a great job with the Star Trek stuff back in the from 1992-the end of the line with insurrection. They wasted a great opportunity to make the "movie Enterprise" from the flims as well as the D-7 Klingon Criuser.i hope with Plamtes getting the license back that they may revisit these ships.
