stop bickering, besides, Paramount just hired Stuart Beatti to write a Third Script, going back to the G.I.Joe Vs Cobra story.

seems as if from what i hear Sommers doesnt want the last two scripts to be used.

IESB - New Third G.I.Joe Script being Written by Stuart Beatti

That site tends to post alot of BS, so I wouldn't put a lot of stock on anything you read there.

Well, I'm crossing my fingers that this particular piece of news isn't.

Though you said they post a lot of BS . . . is it usually completely made up stuff, or just rumors?

Even if it is BS, I'm sure it's true to some degree. Those other scrips were VERY preliminary and movies go through all sorts of rewrites and drafts before the final story is realized.

I'm familiar with the process, I'm just trying to make myself feel better as far as where the movie seems to be heading. Even on such a preliminary basis, any little bit of hopeful news helps assuage my fears! :D

I won't feel better until I hear the whole things been dropped! ;)

If they want to do a fantasy based movie on global terrorist fighters, sorta of like a "how to" book or instructional/educational manual on it (for OUR future benefit?) then they should just go with another title and cast of characters altogether.

Make it Action Force or Soldier Force, Delta force and even Global Force...SOMETHING other than G.I.Joe.

Delta Force has been done, 3 times. And Viper Hunter I have a strong feeling that encouraging people to steal Chuck Norris' movie franchise will have at least one roundhouse coming your way. He doesn't sleep, he waits.

The problem with G.I.Joe is how to make it fun and relevant to a mass audience. No matter what, the small fan community for G.I.Joe will find things to complain about, no matter how small.

I don't see how to make a team of soldiers fighting a terrorist group interesting or relevant and still keep a PG or PG-13 rating. Hasbro still probably has policies about how much violence can be shown against human beings. Are there going to be a lot of lasers? The villains and heroes aren't (or shouldn't be) superheroes. How do you differentiate your product from asian action movies, or things like James Bond or the Bourne Identity? Also, what's with this new-fangled idea going back to Batman (1989) that the super-villain needed to be killed? Every superhero movie has the number-one bad-guy being killed or destroyed. Can't Bat-Man or Spider-man put someone in prison?

I am skeptical that a live-action movie can succeed.

If they just put the villain in jail, we all know that they would get paroled in 5 years for good behavior, jail overcrowding, or a corrupt/ idiotic judge or parole board . . . Or the villain would obviously have a team of evil lawyers that would get him off by a technicality, lack of evidence, say the villain should not be tried in a military court, or drag the case through appellate court for years. @smilepunch@

Chuck Norris is dead ain't he? All that's left of his career is some online jibberish about Chuck Norris does this and Chuck Norris does that. @smilepunch@

Besides...how is stealing Delta Force any LESS offensive than stealing G.I.Joe from us?

I would think it's more offensive, to be quite honest. Delta Force IS an actual US special forces unit. I have a much bigger problem with Hollywood rewriting history (like the above mentioned U-571, or The Patriot) than rewriting a fictional entity. Of course, I don't think that the Delta Force movies were even remotely historically accurate either (I believe the first movie's story was somewhat based on something the Israeli special forces did? Not sure though...) but I don't think anyone though it was, so no harm done.

But don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want them to re-write GI Joe TOO much. I just don't think that making them an international force will necessarily break this movie - I'm MUCH more worried about how the characters themselves are treated after reading that rubbish about Rex, Action Man, etc...

Pulled this from wikipedia...

Prior to G.I. Joe's relaunch in 1982, Larry Hama was developing an idea for a new comic book (to be called Fury Force) which he was hoping would be an ongoing series for Marvel Comics. The original premise had the son of S.H.I.E.L.D director Nick Fury assembling a team of elite commandos to battle neo-Nazi terrorists HYDRA. The idea was nixed, but Hama was able to use the basic premise when he learned of Hasbro's plans to resurrect the G.I. Joe toyline. Each G.I. Joe figure included a character biography, called a "file card." Hama was responsible for writing these file cards, especially for the first ten years. When developing many of the characters, he drew much from his own experiences in the US military.

Maybe they should just go with THIS original idea, for the manner in which they think they have to take G.I.Joe right now (because of political handicaps against the idea of an American based group of global terrorist fighting hero's) and save the ARAH story for a rainy day, when all is right and all is calm and all is less hateful for the Red, White and Blue?

Personally, I will wait a year to see how far the movie been developed before I make personal opinions about it. I mean this is Transformers the Live Action movie all over again.

I think another reason they opted with the global concept is because Gi joe in the '80s was written as a military force that fought globally. I think it would be easier for ppl to swallow that Gi joe is a global unit rather than one just one based in America, given how often Cobra would terrorized other nations and planets.

I know what you feel about Hollywood rewriting history to make it more "acceptable" to western audiences. I mean even though I have never watched U-571 or the Patriot, I have seen the "Last Samurai" which rewrote history in that it was America who was sending their military personals to westernized Japan, but in reality, it was the French. The movie, btw, was based on historical events, even if it was written to have a lot of historical inaccurarcies.
