G.I.Joe Previews Exclusive Cobra Desert Assualt Hi-Res Images

Wow you kids sure like to cry....I like the fact that something new is being tried here. The desert theme reminds me of the current wave in real life US Battle uniforms(cept on a fictional terrorist enemy) Good Job Hasbro...give us more variety. (cry cry why can't everything always be the same?)

He's got a valid point.

Don't encourage him! <_<

;)

It's one thing for someone to share an equal or even opposing opinion to another, but to start it off with a smartass cut against ALL that may have the opposing opinion (from what YOU'RE about to share with everyone).....is pretty lame and obnoxious. Just give us the rundown on YOUR (individual or personal) opinion and spare us the cute little barbs of wit intended only to MOCK what others are saying that you may not like or agree with.

We do, as a community and as individuals, tend to cry about things. I mean really... it's not like Hasbro said if we don't buy this they're going to cancel the line. Don't like it? Don't buy it.

I guess I'm not seeing where such a panic attack was posted, that would identify the comments, so far in this thread, as being childish "crying" and (GOD...I hate to even use the lame ass quote) "OH NOES, DETH OF THE LINE!" type of stuff? Although, I DO think loading up the shelves and pegs with product that nobody is all that interested in or really WANTS, leaving massive amounts of pegwarmers hanging around, can influence what the retailers might start thinking of said product, and while Hasbro would NEVER threaten to cancel anything on their OWN (for such reasons as fans keep posting on message boards that they don't like it) I do think they'd be forced to discontinue something if retailers stop ordering it, so with that, I do see some logic in any stated concern over such items (that are disppointing to some of us) maybe slowing down the momentum of the line which seems to be of the upmost importance with G.I.Joe, seeing how many tiomes it's sputtered and come to a halt, cancelled, put on hiatus and brought back form the dead and regurgetated once more.

And yes, I realize the stupidity of complaining about complainers on a message forum meant to exchange opions both good and bad. I just happen to think the issues raised are silly.

@lol@ Yeah, but even THAT is a complaint about the complaints! "They're SILLY!" @smilepunch@

I don't remember this type of outrage during the ridiculous black Crimson Guard set. If you're upset that they didn't make a new Sand Viper, Scorpion, or any other desert themed persona, you really overestimated Hasbro's intent, and probably haven't been in the fandom for long.

Tom

Well, we do have a LOT of newbies and new YOUNG fans of G.I.Joe, so while that (overall) is a GOOD thing, you have to pretty much let them catch up (so-to-speak) with the old-timers.

I remember taking a screw driver to several of my Joe’s and customizing the heck out of them. With a few dabs of paint and a good set of markers I created my own personalized figures. This box set by Hasbro presents a nice desert theme; it also gives any one buying it a well rounded desert force once opened. Hasbro presents an intriguing looking paint scheme while also delivering to the buyer a visually pleasing package presentation for those who may wish to display this item unopened. Overall I like Hasbro’s efforts here and feel they are trying to give the collector more than a simple color slap rehash. That all said I won’t be buying this set. I personally am not into desert warfare. My money will be better spent buying multiple rattlers to add to my army. #US1#

So I am confused? You have never complained about a figure in your life? Thats what this forum is about ppl express what they do not like about it not make comments about what other ppl say about why they do not like? Childish? lol

I work in the toy industry and trust me a lot of ppl who have seem this line say what you just said (about other ppl saying why cant it stay the same ???) have you seen the figures there bubba??? They are the same you (re re) what ppl are complaing about is the fact Hasbro has re hashed figures with new file cards for the masses and the sheep who bahahah there way to the stores to buy a repaint!!!! you give them credit for that?? Hell legos are more creative that a set of re paints!! man!!!! After collecting for 25 years I will be the first to say Wraith,Para vipers even that retared MATT TACKER figure is refreshing than seeing repaints. At the end of the day if you do not like it you do not have to buy it? we all agree right? but its the same as Metallica and all the internet ppl downloading free music. If you are a fan you will BUY it no matter what. The resaon ahy ppl do crap like that is because they feel intitalled for many years of support! as a fan you have that right!! but only if you buy it!!

What does your reply have to do with what Samantha even said? I've read your reply over and over and I can barely comprehend what you are saying.

I am not too sure what you are even getting at. You used the exact same reply to two different posts that both said two different things.

Next time take a few minutes extra to think about what you are typing before you post it. We might be able to understand you better.

I am neither a child nor a toy industry employee, I am however a proud fan girl. Silly, childish attacks of others comments never help prove an argument other than to point out how child like a flamer is. Yet I will concede one thing, if you don’t like an item you don’t have to buy said item. Spend your money the way you wish and let others do the same.

As Americans we have the right to consume as we see fit. #US1#

First let me say Sorry to Samantha if I put the quote in the wrong box. What I was getting to was I made a comment a few days ago about how the set was kinda Jacked for us to have to pay the same old retail price and even more on Ebay for REPAINTs. As a person from the industry I look at the figure as a whole. How many figures from wave 1-2 have the same bodys and wave 2-3 wave 2-4 so on and so on, have the same body, diffrent heads....ummm Have you guys seen it? What I was making a comment on was the smart mouths who like to say garbage about how ppl like to cry "why cant it all be the same" I came on this message board to talk about my opinion reguarding the product as we all do. For someone to say to "anyone" that ppl complain is insulting and rude. If anything I agreed, that ya if you do not like it.... dont buy it. That still did not give Mrs Smart mouth the right to say anyone is crying or complaining. It is a forum right? we have the right to express our opinion about the product correct? So what gives him the right to insult anyone and call them anything? You call them out ppl will call you out. You started the topic and I wanted to comment? Its only fair right? All of the sudden I became the bad person and wanted to talk about the product in my own fasion. Harsh and REAL. Trust me if they made a bright pink snake eyes and a green timber with orange stripes and called him urban camo commando how many of you would add it to your collection? Not buy it for laughs but really add it to your collection? How many ppl would fill the forums with comments? At the end of the day they are toys. We all collect the way we want. All I am saying is if ppl want to talk crap about something they do not like, be it the same old thing and or something new. Let them without making comments about what they are so called complaing about.

Thanks for clearing a few things up. You are correct every one has the right to voice their opinion. That’s what lists like this are all about. I have no problems with an opinion. I just don’t particularly like flames.

I have been collecting GI Joe toys since my very first one in 1983, a girl named Scarlet. I fondly remember cracking open her plastic bubble and cutting up the card so I could save the file card from the back in an old recipe box. This new line brings back those days. Hasbro has reawakened in me an excitement with all of their 25th anniversary items. These sets being released are very nice and while they may be repaints, I still welcome them. So as far as I am concerned I hope Hasbro keeps making these kinds of products. I may not buy everything but I will buy those things that ignite my imagination they way it was when I cracked open a new Joe as a child. #US1#

I don't tend to distinguish between the two. I'm an adult spending his disposable income on action figures and comic books- not necessarily 'collectors' stuff, but things made for children first and foremost. I figure it's ALL for laughs, one way or another.

I'd buy Prince Adam Snake Eyes in a heartbeat. Heck, I'd buy a dozen and use them as Xmas presents. I know plenty of people who would honestly adore it.

I'm trying to figure out if you're trying to say people shouldn't pick apart new figures and play 'match the parts', or if you're questioning why the practice is so prevalent. If it's the first, then we're in agreement, at least to an extent. I think a figure should be judged on the merits of the complete figure.

On the other hand, someone who plays 'match the parts' for fun rather than to criticize each piece individually isn't doing any harm. I've said before that I'm not the sort of person who can recognize the pieces like that, and I find it somewhat entertaining to hear what 'recipes' Hasbro is using.

I agree with you. What I am saying is that WE as collectors have a right to voice our opinions on them (HASBRO). Honestly do you guys know why they changed the name of GI JOE movie Internatinal Hero to GI JOE REAL AMERICAN HERO? I do something the corprate monkeys at Hasbro will not admit to. As trivial as is was for Some ##$%$# to do it. I was told that they were threatened with violence. Now that was stupid for whoever to do it but it got there point across. As a whole reusing the same old figure to make another figure is in my opinion is a ripping us off. Why do we pay almost 8.00 retail maybe 10-12 with out shipping (on EBAYS) for rehashed figs? They know what we like and add there colors. I mean I was reading the other post about the desert set? really come on Desert? hell why not desert scorpion? by the way that figure will be released within the next two waves. Why another bat in the mass device pack? When they dam well know they are coming out with a 6 pack of BATS soon with a bats leader? I mean I like GI JOE just like the next person and sometimes its just weird how we as collectors get excited in wait for the next wave and realize, oh.... its another repaint. Heck we have all farkinsteined our figs before that was the fun part. So what happens now when they have reached there 275 mark of figures in the next two years? Whats a 3 3/4 M.A.S.K. line by the way (inside source) thay are test marketing MATT TRACKER... but really.. what are they gonna use the same GI JOE body parts.. and make a Vamp that transforms into a camaro? LOL picture it a wamp MK1 with vamp MK2 doors ...lol well either way thanks for being fair about it. No hard feelings to anyone that I may have offended and if I have sorry that was not my intent and I apologize. I am just here to talk about what we all love and hate.

YO JOE !!!!!

Don't encourage him! <_<

Come one, Dan... have we ever really needed encouraging? If you've made up your mind, it doesn't matter if the whole board agrees or disagrees with you... they're gonna know about it @loll@

But I get ya... all I meant was that he had a valid point, not that the way he framed it was in the most flattering and respectful tone it could have been. You know and I know we tend to whine about the tiniest little thing, even looking for it most of the time ( "This figures is amazing! Absolutely the best figure ever... oh, but his thumb is a bit crooked so he sucks!")

I think my issue is not so much that people are complaining in general, but that they didn't see this coming. If you asked me a year ago that we were getting a desert themed Cobra pack, I'd have said "Oh, neat. I wonder how many Cobra Commanders will be in it." @smilepunch@

@lol@ Yeah, but even THAT is a complaint about the complaints! "They're SILLY!" @smilepunch@

It's a vicious circle. : (

@lol@ Too TRUE!

I think anyone that even dares join the fray of such a place (all of message board, blogging etc..) probably feels pretty comfortable in their own skin, and wants others to know what THEY think....as you say, without "encouraging". Although the give'em an inch they'll take a mile theory can still be in place, when they think they've got our attention.

Some of the comments by the newbies were....interesting.

Its part of the nature of being a fan to complain. And, if people didn't seem to notice, complaining DOES work for the better sometimes. Major Bludd, in this set, is a good example.

Desert themed figures are ok, the problem I have is, since we don't know "who these guys are" its hard to figure out whats going on in this set. The other environmentaly themed set included a Tele-Viper in arctic clothing.

THAT makes sense and the character is easily identifiable.

But from what we've seen of the pics, these guys are all just "Cobra trooper". Now it COULD just be they are using a stand that was handy. But, for some reason, I don't think so. And what does that say? It almost seems like they went and frankensteined parts, just for the hell of it and it would seem, to me anyway, that it would be true IF all these guys are just "troopers".

If they are "specialists" of some kind, then that's ok.

Basically speaking, the fact we don't know who these figures are supposed to "represent" is why a lot of people are less than thrilled with this set. The figures aren't really easily identifiable as anyone. or identifiable as any particular job. It just some guys with some slapped on accessories someone picked blindly out of a hat or something (yeah, I'm being sarcastic).

We have the guy with the mine detector, ok, that guy we can figure out. But the guy with the cutting torch? With the fire extinguisher? #WTF#

Originally I had this preordered, but I cancelled. I mean, I really only need the Bludd. I kind of like the straight-up repaints, especially the blueshirt done up in tan. If it had been a set of those I would have kept it, but the CG is a little weird and I don't like the Frankenjoes at all, so it's a pass for me. I'm sure I can pick up the Bludd alone on Ebay or something.

Use your imagination and come up with a reason for these guys. Mix weapons from other giuys even. Maurader weapons could make them more appealing and replace weapons that don't make sense.

I have all kinds of ideas for these guys and I did not need Hasbro to give me the ideas and spell out for me who was who and what purpose they served. Sometimes getting creative can be alot of fun.

Sure, I can do that. I've already done that with the other 200 repaints Hasbro put out. It gets tiresome, especially with the Rainbow Brigade of Vipers. Hasbro has put out around 600 figures, the majority of them repaints. So tialrea takes a lot to give them purpose.

And its not entirely about just "making it up myself", I'm legitimately interested in finding out what Hasbro had in mind for them. My guess is that is actually a flame thrower, not a fire extinguisher, for example. And I shouldn't HAVE to mix and match and make up stuff. One of the cool things about G.I. Joe was that each guy was a specialist in somehting and came with appropriate (usually) equipment for that specialty (at least up until 1992). And that was one of the good things about 25th, they were going back to that (to an extent). But sometimes they screw up. I should fix a mistake like that becuase I WANT to, not because I should HAVE to.

Since it's been brought up, all of these figures are specialists of some kind or another except the CG's. Hisstank posted a pic of the back of the box during Joecon which listed what their jobs were (I'd post the pic but I can't find it). The barbaque repaint is a flame thrower not a fire fighter.

EDIT-here's a link. Look at the card art pics.

Actually, from the box art it looks like the cutting torch is a flamethrower and the fire extinguisher is some sort of gas gun... judging by the bio-hazard symbol on his chest and his "Hostile Environment" designation, I'd guess he's meant to be a stand in for a proper Toxo-Viper. A "Toxo-Viper Light", if you will, as the Eels are said to be for the Hydro-Vipers, or Toxo-Vipers themselves are to Heavy Waters.

We have the guy with the mine detector, ok, that guy we can figure out. But the guy with the cutting torch? With the fire extinguisher? #WTF#

I call them Fuse-Viper, Flame-Viper, and Chem-Viper, respectively.

How did the Crimson Guard ELITE troopers get relegated to "desert infantry"?

The set looks good but the timing is bad. I hate going months with no new product and then everything gets released at once. I would probably buy mulitiples of the set if it was released in like Feb. or March. Too much product is already fighting for my money in the next few months!!!

For the answer to that, let's consult the commanders of the Crimson Guard. Hey Tomax, Xamot, have you seen them around? No, you guys can't be the CG commanders! You're like, the trooper commanders or Viper commanders or something, right?
